so how did vn hunting go?

let's see, i put that post up in... october? and i think at that time i was severely distracted by pokemon go, so i ended up forgetting about playing visual novels. i really do have to write down an official to-play list...

that said, i saw this one orv vn a month ago that i actually really want to play. it's kill the demon king, and hopefully i will actually remember wanting to play it, haha

“Your parents are very disappointed that their grandson looks like me,” Yang Haoran said. “Isn’t that right, A-Chen? Yes, aren’t you just like your father?”

The baby giggled. Yang Haoran continued contentedly bouncing it in his lap. He was always disconcertingly cheerful when he was playing with the baby.

“I can’t say,” Jiang Mingxi said dryly. The baby, as far as she was concerned, was just a baby. A baby didn’t look like a person yet. Certainly, it had facial features, but those facial features hadn’t really grown to resemble anyone in particular. Probably the only reason why everyone kept bringing up any resemblance at all was the hair – curiously fluffy, just like his father’s.

Yang Haoran scoffed. “You’re supposed to agree with me. A child is supposed to look like his parents.”

“You really think he looks like you?” Jiang Mingxi said, wrinkling her nose.

“… You’re really saying that to me?”

… Yeah, she shouldn’t have said that. Yang Haoran always puffed up so proudly whenever anyone said the baby looked like him. Right now, he was already starting to frown. But --

“I’m just saying. He’s not pretty enough to look like you.”

She’d spent a fairly large portion of her teenage years avoiding admitting it, but Jiang Mingxi was over that. She could say it out loud with her own mouth: Yang Haoran was a beauty. On the other hand, the baby… was a potato.

The corner of his mouth twitched. “...Are you supposed to say that about your own child, Mingxi?”

“What,” Jiang Mingxi said defensively. “I’m not wrong. Maybe when he’s older, but you’re much more —”

“God, you say such stupid shit,” Yang Haoran said, almost fond.

I'm going to assume this is a prompt and write a scene as my response. Admittedly, Lani's story is the least developed of the three so this is very messy and as always what I write here might be changed or deleted later.

"Aren't you tired, Miss?" says the woman in white, golden eyes flecked with infuriating sorrow. "I'm tired."

Lani barks out a harsh laugh. "Oh, you're tired? I didn't think you had enough humanity for that."

"I am more human than god."

"Are you now?" How funny. How very fucking funny. Lani sneers. White hair, white skin, white gown, white dream—as if any human could tolerate so much white. "If I say I'm tired, would it mean anything? Would you fucking let me go home?"

"I want to go home too, you know?"

"Am I supposed to feel sorry for you?"

The other woman shakes her head. "I wouldn't ask that of you. I simply ask—"

"You," Lani says venomously, "are in no place to ask anything of me."

She knows what all this is. She'd be a fucking idiot if she hadn't been able to figure it out by now: all the other dreams, the memories of blood and war, a little boy pleading to uncaring gods, a girl holding her scepter over her head to chase away a burning sky—all for the purpose of evoking empathy. Place her among the bodies and oh but of course she'll want to save them all.

Ha.

Lani's life may not have been perfect but it was hers. How long had it taken? How many clothes, how many hairstyles, how many personalities before she looked in the mirror and failed to find herself? The life that was painstakingly hers, stolen away, and now she's told to be someone else again. Your home is gone, your world is past, so won't you move toward your future, Miss Heroine?

Those weren't her memories, this isn't her world, and that's not her fucking name.

How like both gods and royalty, to make demands and expect to be followed to the letter.

"Tell me, your majesty," Lani wonders, "will you bleed red, or gold?"

And stabs the goddess queen in her stupid fucking throat.

lets roll the dice for fth 1!

Flowers weren’t supposed to grow out of people’s lungs, in his current life and in the last. That was a trope confined to self-indulgent fanfic; it wasn’t supposed to show up in a showbiz novel that at least made an attempt to comply with the laws of reality. The novel Li Yichang read never mentioned this mechanic; therefore, it wasn’t supposed to exist. If it did, then it would have been brought up, because it would’ve been a waste not to use such a dramatic worldbuilding detail in a plot that revolved around stupid drama.

Which meant that 1) Yang Haoran was hallucinating, or 2) he was just that special.

Yang Haoran felt cheated. Reincarnation was supposed to give you perks, not one-of-a-kind health problems. What if he’d actually called the ambulance? What would they manage to do when he started coughing up flower petals? Was there an emergency therapist who could speedrun talking about his feelings?

What feelings, anyway? He didn’t have feelings.

From an outside point of view, the timing was damning. An old classmate showed up, and suddenly he was coughing flower petals?

But Yang Haoran really wasn’t in love with Chen Lihua. He was civil and polite to Chen Lihua, and that was the most he could manage. He didn’t hate her, but did he have any positive feelings about Chen Lihua at all?

Yang Haoran searched his feelings and concluded the answer was no, not really.

Was he really supposed to search for answers in his love life? His love life was fine. Yang Haoran was engaged and due to be married any day now. He had a perfectly happy relationship with a beautiful fiancee/childhood friend who liked pinning him to walls and other hard surfaces. Everything was going great.

… Was it going to stay great?

fth 1 with a dash of randomness!!

so, i was trying to figure out a scene, and uh, this doesn't quite fit (too long). i think it's still presentable on its own, though, so... tadaaaa

A few years ago, Chen Lihua had landed herself in the principal’s office. She’d stood, perfectly straight, under the disappointed gaze of her homeroom teacher and the accusing glares of her classmates’ parents. There had been a fight – and you were the one who started it, weren’t you, Chen Lihua? How could you? You’re such a good student – how could you be so violent? How could you do that to your classmates?

For a moment, Chen Lihua hadn’t been able to say anything at all. She couldn’t understand how things had been interpreted this way. It had been Chen Lihua, getting shoved into a bathroom stall by three other people – how was that a fight that she started? It wasn’t even a fight she’d won. It was ridiculous, hearing about the damage she did, when Chen Lihua was the most injured person in the room.

When Chen Lihua finally grasped what was happening, she’d argued back. But it was like she hadn’t said anything at all; it was like anything she could say was worthless. She’d gotten suspended for a week, and when she came back, it was business as usual. Class happened, same as always, and when it was over, three people dragged her to the bathroom and held her head under the sink.

That's this little prologue!

It's basically what it says on the tin. I have some other vague ideas but nothing really coherent, just random ansakyou scenes with Lambo in them. Lambo plots to kill the principal multiple times and not a single teacher thinks he's joking, but Irina is the only one who actually knows who he is. Hibari drops in sometimes and all of E-Class are very alarmed by Lambo's big brother, except for Karma, who is delighted. All of the Guardians + Reborn show up to their cultural festival restaurant and all the other hitmen/assassins in attendance are like wtfwtfwtfwtfwtfwtf

You would think being promoted to the head disciple position would change things in Shang Qinghua’s life – and it did! It sure did! He had to worry way less about sabotaging people and more about people sabotaging him!

But being an An Ding disciple still meant, like… work. He had the power of delegation now, even if a lot of people stink-eyed him for it, but he was still doing a lot of work. And, well, the only person he could blame for that was the An Ding Peak Lord.

That was another thing that had changed upon being promoted. Shang Qinghua had a direct line to that guy. Shang Qinghua was now important enough to speak directly to him – was expected to speak directly to him, because if anyone should get the An Ding Peak Lord’s attention, it was his head disciple.
