Vulpes ferrilata - Tibetan Sand Fox
some of the new “ask the team” q&a that are relevant to my interests…
Writer’s Inktober #8: Impasse
“So, is that a yes?”
Ferrilata gives a sly laugh, pale eyes shining with mirth. “No, it’s not.”
“Okay, so a maybe then.”
The skydancer swats her friend, though she doubts it’ll do anything. “Argok!”
Argok pouts and Ferilata greatly wishes that someone else was here to see it because it’s quite a sight, she thinks. “Ferri, please! I don’t want to watch them by myself! Besides, they like you,” the ridgeback whines, awkwardly splaying himself on the ground to show his desperation.
Ferrilata giggles and pats his head. “There, there. They like you too, it’s why they pick on you so much.” Which is the truth. Impa and Thore may pick on him more than anyone else, well, besides Dak, but they do like him. In their case, the more they tease and mess with you, the more they like you. Though Dak would probably disagree with her, but it’s true. They respect him, a lot. They also like to mess with him, a lot.
Argok groans, his head lolling to the side, hopeless. “Do I really have to do this?”
“Did Dak or Ausha ask you to do it?”
“Ausha did, said something about her and Dak having a meeting to go to and that she didn’t want the two to pull anything too bad while they’re away.”
“Then yes.”
He sighs before standing, shaking out the leaves in his mantle and readjusting it to drop back over his shoulder. “Alright, well, if I don’t make it through this, then you can have my trident so you can remember me in my prime.”
Ferrilata gives an dramatic sigh, putting a clawed hand to her forehead. “My brave knight! I’ll hang it up in my cave so I can remember how noble your sacrifice was.”
He snorts, nudging her, gently, with his foot. “Brat.”
“But you love me,” she sings, returning his bump with one of her own.
He gazes upwards, pretending to think. “I dunno, love is a strong word.”
Ferrilata gasps, hands held to her chest. “Ouch! I see how it is.”
Argok shakes his head. “I’ll declare my undying love for you if you help me watch the two troublemakers.”
“As tempting as that offer is, I’ll have to pass.”
“Your loss,” Argok says with a shake of his head. “Alright, I gotta go. See you later, Ferri.”
“Have fun! Don’t die!” Ferrilata cackles, waving goodbye.
Argok sighs to himself, half convinced that he actually will die.
Writer’s Inktober #4: Compliment
Eirwen fidgets, combing her claws through her mane nervously as she prepares to practice a song she’s been working on.
Normally, it’s not a big deal, but this time, there’s an unexpected guest sitting at one of the tables. There’s usually always a couple members present when she practices, mostly because the stage is in the biggest cave of the lair so it’s always busy.
As she gazes out at the few present, she can’t help but grin.
Of course Fara and Karno are here, they’re always here, and while Ferrilata isn’t a common presence, she’s not exactly unwelcome either. Ribaia is noticeably absent, since he had some big audition to go to, otherwise he’d be here as well.
The problem though is that towards the back, curled around himself with his head resting on one of his own coils, is Hyorinmaru.
He looks tired, she thinks, trying not to be too conspicuous with her staring, but the other imperial is very rarely seen in the lair caverns, much less at one of her practice sessions.
He’s not unwelcome either, in fact, she’s delighted her crush is here, but his presence makes her nervous and she can’t help but want to impress him with her song.
Despite the fact that she’s never seen his facial expression change, she is determined to get something out of him.
So she sings.
It’s a song that she’s been working on for awhile, but she was just never happy with it. Something always felt off and as she sings it now, she still feels that way.
After finishing the first two verses, she frowns and pulls out her song book, fiddling with the edge of the pages as she thinks.
“That was good.”
Startled, Eirwen glances up to see Hyorinmaru, upright and watching her, face as serious as ever.
She blinks. “I- excuse me?”
“The song. It was good.”
“Oh. Thank you.”
He simply nods before laying his head back down and closing his eyes.
Hearing quiet snickers, she turns to see Fara and Karno grinning at her. She rolls her eyes with a huff, but she’s sure they know that she’s very pleased with the compliment.
Gossips, she thinks fondly, too happy to do anything at the moment.
With Hyorinmaru’s words ringing in her ears, she returns to her song with renewed vigor.
It’s good, huh? Well, next time, I’ll get you to say it’s wonderful.
