Exposing Myths About Infertility
Infertility is often misunderstood, leading to myths that can make the journey even harder. Here’s the truth behind some common misconceptions:
1️⃣ Myth: Infertility is rare. Truth: It affects 1 in 6 couples.
2️⃣ Myth: If you’ve had a child, it should be easy to have another. Truth: Secondary infertility affects up to 70% of infertile couples.
3️⃣ Myth: Infertility is only a woman’s issue. Truth: Male and female infertility occur at nearly equal rates.
4️⃣ Myth: Just relax or take a vacation, and you’ll get pregnant. Truth: Infertility isn’t caused by stress—relaxing helps well-being but won’t ‘fix’ infertility.
5️⃣ Myth: Adopting increases your chances of pregnancy. Truth: Adoption doesn’t change conception rates for infertile couples.
Dealing with infertility can sometimes lead to ‘smiling depression’. This means hiding your real feelings behind a smile, even when you’re very sad. This can make events like baby showers or family questions about having kids really tough. Learning to recognize and truly understand your own feelings is an important step in handling these challenges.
