the adrenaline that accompanied claiming the magnificent beast that was vhagar still coursed through the little prince's veins upon his return to king's landing. though the wind stung his fresh wound incessantly, there was nothing he could compare to the freeing feeling of flying through the skies alongside his siblings and their dragons. vhagar, of course, was too big for the dragon pit, which meant that he would have to land farther from the keep than anyone else. just outside the city, a carriage awaited his arrival. vhagar quickly nestled herself among the cliffs overlooking the narrow sea, her tail and necked curled close to her body. the prince looked upon her with pride one last time before entering the carriage.
" uncle, " aemond greets with a courteous nod. he is all but lost in his thoughts eager for his mother to return so he could bother her about the next time he would be allowed to take flight with vhagar. after all, he had a lot of catching up to do in comparison to aegon and helaena ! aemond nearly misses the words his uncle speaks but once they register in his mind, the young boy gazes upon him with his mouth slightly agape. the reactions he received from claiming vhagar had all been rather . . . unsupportive, for the lack of a better word. his brows furrow for the briefest of moments, lips pressing into a straight line. but it was not long before the corners of his mouth lift into a smile.
" she nearly killed me, " aemond responds bluntly to the praise though his words are laced with adoration. " vhagar is the oldest dragon still alive, you know. and the only dragon still alive from aegon's conquest. " this is, without a doubt, information his uncle already knew. after all, niclas' expertise in education is half the reason aemond takes his time with the maesters as seriously as he does. it is no secret the young prince is inspired by his uncle in more ways than one so his pride is highly revered by aemond. " it is fitting that she allowed a prince to claim her, don't you think ? "
