Ohohoho. I hope you liked last round's Cloud HCs! As I vaguely said in some other post, the Remnants are like little brothers to me...

so here's some indulgence!

Remnants of Sephiroth (Kadaj, Loz, and Yazoo) Agere Headcanons!

Fair warning, since we only got One Movie's Worth Of Them and their characters haven't been SUPER explored in canon, this may lean a *little* further into overall HC territory in terms of personalities, how they handle things, etc., especially for Yazoo since I feel like he's just kinda There sometimes. One of the main headcanons that I have that will be influencing this post is the concept of the Remnants also representing more than just what they've been stated to represent. I'm gonna yap more under the cut.

Kadaj represents Sephiroth's rage, but to me he also represents Sephiroth as he was during the Nibelheim incident and after. Yazoo represents his allure, but I also think he represents pre-Nibelheim Sephiroth, quiet, tactical, a bit awkward. And finally Loz, representative of Sephiroth's strength, represents a Sephiroth That Could Have Been, the emotions and sense of self that were never nurtured, and Sephiroth's inner turmoil, which is why he's so volatile emotionally, because I don't think Sephiroth really ever got a handle on that.

Without further ado... HEADCANONS!

They all care for each other. Flippity flip flips. This kinda just seems right to me, as they'd be protective of each other, sticking together through thick and thin...

...so if you act as a CG for any of them, the others will be around to help you as they're more than likely the typical primary CGs for each other... they're a bit codependent in this way, tbh...

Loz is the least obvious about when he's regressed, surprisingly, because there's a lot of overlap between how he usually acts and how he acts when regressed. Honestly, I could see him being a permaregressor? Not fully sure on that one. I see him as easily able to slip in and out of it but not really in control of it. He behaves how you'd expect but he really likes being doted upon. Probably the one to regress the furthest. He's pretty easy to care for outside of when he gets fussy. Fond of any sort of toys, Very babyre to me. Bonk cars into each other with him. Make nyooom sounds with the toys. EVERYTHING IN THE SQUARE HOLE! Building blocks and knocking them down. Busting a move. All of it. Very down with gross motor play.

Yazoo is interesting because I think when he's regressed he gets even more quiet, but instead of it being sourced from awkwardness, it stems from insecurity. All of the Remnants have some mental aches and pains and bad feelings from just... generally being Of Sephiroth and probably being fully capable of having the same humanity debacles he did. Yazoo, I think, would have regression that taps into any feelings of inferiority or not being good enough from Sephiroth's early experiment days, but he can't quite pinpoint them as such. He filters most of his wants through Kadaj or Loz, preferring to cling to them rather than anyone else... saying he doesn't try to be alone the whole time and just supress it. It's an act of vulnerability he doesn't often want to show. Prone to just masking it. Fond of quiet play and storytime. Give him one of those marble maze balls. Or maybe he'd like a dollhouse to play out a gentle life.

Kadaj is a stubborn, stubborn regressor. He wants control, he wants to be a big kid, he wants to do it by himself ONLY. Sometimes his brothers get through to him by letting him play the Leadership card and letting him "organize" them to help him do as he requests. He hates not having any control, feeling unsure of things, and I don't think he even likes regressing initially. Kadaj is the most difficult to deal with. He doesn't want to play. He wants to outright fight you. Sometimes he's harder to handle when tired, but once he's really, really sleepy, he's more compliant. Maybe as time passes, he'd get better, though. Getting him to work with you and not against you is probably the most satisfying feeling. He likes to be rewarded.

All of them occasionally yearn for their mother. They have different ideals of her though. Loz wants to play with her, Yazoo wants to be held by her, and Kadaj wants her praise and approval. Yet all three are oddly a bit disappointed by the reality.

As carers for one another, Kadaj is pretty in-tune with his brothers, so it's easy for him to take charge with either Loz or Yazoo. Yazoo is very gentle and tends to give Kadaj space or just watch Loz play and is especially good at calming Loz down or tactically going with Kadaj's... Kadajenings. Loz is good at getting Yazoo out of his shell and sometimes he's struck gold in entirely distracting Kadaj from whatever he was mad about to something he can actually do.

As carers for others, Loz is somehow the best of the bunch yet prone to accidentally regressing alongside a regressor, going up and down and in and out of regression. Yazoo is very lowkey and content with parallel play-type activities, good for a regressor who isn't very needy. And Kadaj... he tries to take charge but he's less attuned, which throws him off and sometimes frustrates him.

No warnings (I think)

It wasn't a secret, you are very easily frustrated. Too many failed summons, dine and dashers, and ascensions had left you in a very pissy mood. While helping clean up the restaurant after the dinner rush, you dropped a stack of plates. Not many of them ended up breaking but it was the last straw for your frustrated, tired mind. You felt tears prick the corners of your eyes, plunging into the deep end of your overwhelming emotions.

Pudding, drawn over by the noise made some attempts to console you, insisting you take the rest of the night off. He wasn't great with emotions but you could tell he was trying his best, you give him a shaky nod and a mumbled apology that was followed by a thanks.

You make your way up to your room up in the loft above the restaurant, struggling a bit to climb up the stairs. You were dimly aware of the tears pouring down your face, sniffling pathetically. Now you were upset at yourself for not having a better handle on your emotions.

You were so tired out and had slipped fully into littlespace at this point. You wanted nothing more than to curl up with your stuffies and just sleep. You fussed with the buttons on the front of your uncomfortable uniform, struggling to undo them. Doing this only served to make you more frustrated when you couldnt get them. You slump over next to your bed, exhausted.

There was a knock on your door, you weren't sure how long you've been on the floor at this point. You let out a grumpy whine.

"Master Attendent, may I come in?" Your beloved food soul Miso Soup calls out to you from behind the door to your bedroom. He must've come to check on you.

"Helps p'eeease misooo." You're making grabby hands at the door even though he can't see you.

He opens the door and takes in the sight of you scrunched up beside your bed, tear tracks evident on your face. You had gotten some of the buttons but were struggling with them a lot. He didn't understand fully what was going on but he still wanted to help you, as you were his beloved Master Attendent.

"Oh dear, Master Attendent," he cautiously approaches you, not wanting to overstep his welcome. His hand gently wipes the new tears that were starting up. "Its okay, you're okay now, I've got you."

"T'anks Miso," You give him a shaky smile.

"What's got you so worked up, Master Attendent?" His hand is gently cradling your cheek.

"I messed up everyfin I tried to do today, n I dropped bunches of plates when's I was cleanin and now I can't get my dumb buttons undone because I slipped," You pat your hands on your legs to try and dispel some of your much too big feelings.

The term slipped rang a very feint bell in Miso's mind, so he decided it might be a good idea to ask you for more information. It had been a very long time since the Food Soul had heard anything relating to what the humans refer to as age regression. It didn't make much sense to him, but then again he didn't experience aging the same way people do. He decided that he wanted to help you, even if he didnt understand fully.

"Hey, Master Attendent?" You hum in acknowledgement. "Are you a little?"

You nod a yes to the sudden question. Quickly feeling embarrassed and upset that you weren't even able to keep one of your biggst secrets.

"Awe, Master Attendent I had no idea you could get cuter!" He smiles softly at you, "Do you know how old you feel, little one?"

You think for a moment, before holding up 3 fingers. You're blushing, Miso complements you all the time but this is the first time you've believed him. He complements everyone he meets after all, you figured he was just like that.

"You're so little, Y/N" He ruffles your hair, grinning like the sun. You smile back, relieved that he accepted this side of you. "Do you need help with your buttons, little one?"

"Mmhmm! Is really difficult."

He gently undoes the buttons, helping you pull it off. You felt better now that you were wearing just an undershirt and pants.

"Okay sunshine, are you comfortable with me helping give you a bath? I don't mean to be rude but you look a bit disheveled." You fiddle with the hem of your shirt, thinking. You wanna be clean because you feel all sweaty and gross. You trust Miso unconditionaly, so you think that would be very nice.

"Okie, can I hav bubbles?" You had bubble bath under your sink that smelled like watermelon candy.

"Of course darling! You just have to tell me where it is," he laughs, "Alright, Master Attendent! Let's get you in the tub, then we can get all cozy in bed for a nap."

Miso draws the bath and adds in the bubble bath you told him the location of. He helps you undress, averting his eyes when needed, and helps you into the warm water. You sink into it and relax your tensed muscles. You giggle a bit swirling your hands in the water making the bubbles spin about.

Miso, who had stepped aside for a moment while you were occupied playing, got changed into something that had less draping fabric than his usual attire. While he was happy to help, that didn't mean he had to get his robes wet. When he returned he was clad in a large tee-shirt of yours and fuzzy pjama pants patterned with duckies. He smiles fondly at you, delighted to see you so relaxed.

"Alright kiddo! Let's get your hair all washed and brushed."

The two of you get through the bathtime process, he helps you get dried off and you get wrapped in a big fluffy bath towel. He holds your hand and together you walk into your bedroom.

"Okay little one, lets get you in some jammies!" He smiles and boops your nose.

"Deys in the box under my bed, t'anks you Miso!"

"Its no problem sunshine, you do so much all the time it's only fair that I can return the favor." He reaches under your bed pulling out the box, and sets it up next to you. You open it, pulling out a a zip up footie onsie, it was black with pink sheep on it.

Miso helps you get all dressed for bed and before you know it you're all tucked in with your favorite stuffie with you cuddled up to his chest. You could hear his heartbeat reassuringly in your ear. You were quickly lulled into sleep by him counting prayer beads.

"One prayer bead, two prayer beads...."

Big Brother CG and Regressor (Flip) Sephiroth HCs!

(oh gosh, my second headcanons post... hopefully this is decent!)

As A CG

He's a very matter-of-fact CG. You tell him you regress, he gets it surprisingly quick, with a few questions. (He neglects to initially tell you that he also regresses because he didn't want to admit that out loud. That, and he mostly regresses solo.) He agrees to watch you when he's free or available enough.

Very lowkey. His caregiving style is very much so akin to parallel play. He keeps an eye on you while you do stuff while he does stuff also...

...but he's happy to give you more attention if you want it. You just have to ask, or, he'll watch for your cues. His keen perception helps him a lot, even if he doesn't always know exactly what you want.

However, this also means he'll notice when you seem sleepy or hungry or otherwise in need of something. This doesn't bode well for any stubborn regressors who'd rather deny that they need anything at all. Good for easily distracted regressors who give unconscious cues but don't realize them on their own.

Strong enough to carry you, and honestly? He's likely to, as long as you're alright for it. He'll scoop you up and put you down like it's nothing.

He's content to hold you in his arms and rock you.

He'll let you play with his hair, as long as you don't pull it. He'll even let you braid it or put it up as long as you're gentle!

Being firm comes naturally to him, and he can make himself clear about what he's telling you to do with ease.

He does his best to be gentle with you in your vulnerable state, even when he has to be firm. He doesn't want to hurt you, even on accident.

I know this trope is silly but let's face it, Sephiroth's a high-ranking SOLDIER, of course he has a ton of paperwork to do. He'll give you your own "paperwork," just coloring sheets or worksheets. It's not much, but he'll give you a multicolored pen to do them with.

He probably stashes some subtle gear-that-isn't-outright-gear in his desk for you and himself.

He'd hesitate to admit it, but he does enjoy caring for you. You matter to him... quite a lot, in fact. He likes seeing you so carefree and expressive.

When Regressing

Likes small spaces, curling up into a ball and folding up on himself, almost catlike in that he'll fit himself into any space.

Doesn't like the subject of anything related to SOLDIER work or training (except maybe when he's regressed a lot older - I could see him teen regressing) because he's dealt with it too much to begin with. He doesn't want to be a hero. He just wants to be a normal someone.

Thus, his pretend play is very grounded if he pretends at all. He would like games like playing house.

A good mother figure would absolutely break him. A good father figure would be strange to him, but not unwelcome. He's more fixated on the concept of maternal affection and he gravitates toward it more, but he would die for having a happy family and people to care for him.

He takes well to other familial figures, too. He prefers them to be in an older sort of role. Siblings, aunts or uncles, grandparents... literally anyone to take care of him.

He tends to regress very small (at least, to him) and tends to not speak much.

Can be independent and capable even when regressed, but is not one to deny help from someone he trusts as long as the coast is clear for his regression. It takes him time to get comfortable regressing around someone, and he tends to deny help initially, even it he's frustrated. His walls take a long time to break down. Once he trusts you, though? Oh, there are no such things as walls and barriers.

Mix of voluntary and involuntary regression.

Masks well, but quietly melts down as soon as he's alone after a long period of masking. It's unlikely he'll let many people, if anyone at all, in unless he's desperate at a time like this.

Expects to be punished at every turn. It's best to not punish him at all.

If he lets you in on this, you have to keep it a secret. Don't betray his trust. Please.

Genuine and specific praise will make him very happy.

He just wants to be good. He just wants to be normal.

All in all, he's a secretive, even slightly ashamed regressor, but once there's trust, you're never going back.

Get this dude a paci, stat.

With that, some soft toys, too. Cuddly things.

If you ever put his things away for him to make sure they're not out in the open, he will consider you an absolute godsend. He's less diligent at times when regressing, but at other times, hyperaware and nervous.

He will take any affection you give him. Hell knows he's been deprived of it all. If he's regressed older, he might resist it. When regressed younger, he will never resist it.

He knows it's probably hard but if you can rock him, he will be at peace.

He isn't quick to admit it, but you can simply tell that he loves every moment of your care.

Age Regressor Cloud Strife Headcanons!

I don't think he regresses on purpose or with any awareness of it being regression until post-Advent Children.

However, I wanna go over both OG and AC in terms of how he expresses it...

VII: Unintentional, subtle regression. It tends to come out as more cranky standoffishness than normal. "Not interested" replaced with "don't wanna." Curling up in a ball in the inn bed and hugging the pillow real tight. Missing his mom. Remembering his mom a bit more. Sometimes even slips when in possession of the Black Materia and this is Not A Good Thing. Get ready for "Yeah, So, Sephiroth Knows You're Regressing Even Though You Don't." Hence this.

I think you can also interp at least the sequence with Cloud and Tifa going about getting Cloud's memories back as not just reconciling Falsified Memory Cloud and Real Cloud, but also a sort of... a coming to terms with Cloud's regression tendencies. Still not a full awareness.

I think Aerith gets a little more gentle with him when he's regressed, but neither of them quite have the words to explain what's going on.

Sometimes he's quieter when regressed, more shy than normal, too.

AC: Aware regression. I'm not sure how he came to the awareness of the concept, or maybe he just doesn't have the right language for it, but he's aware of his own regression, now. He's kind of in denial about it, and furthermore, hesitant to be vulnerable. It's only after the events of Advent Children that he perhaps, opens up to Tifa about it. They talk. Tifa sorta ends up as Cloud's CG-ish, but that's not an exact description of their dynamic. Because neither of them are quite familiar with agere as a whole, they've got clunky ways about it. Cloud will regress and sometimes Tifa checks in on him, or just keeps him company. Sometimes Cloud regresses on purpose now to try and figure this all out. Tifa's there for him. It's weird for him, but he's getting there.

Now, onto less narrative-focused headcanons and more generalized ones...

Cloud, as I stated earlier, is a very subtle regressor. He's only really noticeable when he's pushed further into strong emotion or by subtle verbal shifts. He's staunchly independent and rarely wants to ask for help, which is not exactly a good thing when he's so far slipped that things get more difficult and he's more easily upset. He's not exactly communicative.

Enjoys being taken care of, despite this. He just won't ask for it... most of the time.

Once he gets better about everything in general, I think he's more open to asking those he trusts closely for help. And I do mean trusts closely. I don't even think he'd tell most of the party. Would've told Aerith had he known, tells Tifa, maybe asks Barret for some really indirect advice because he's a dad (masked as advice about, say, taking care of an actual kid, maybe Denzel)... but he's still pretty damn private about it.

He's doing his best, okay?

...regressing makes him consider growing his hair out a bit more again just to tie it back like he did when he was younger.
