I have been thinking about Minecraft but realistic worldbuilding too much lately too and now I'm wondering how differently we imagine things now, and feel the need to have a long conversation comparing things which sadly would be uncomfortable through anon asks and spam would annoy people which makes me sad (｡•́︿•̀｡) - fanfic anon

i think it'd be fine! ill just dump the stuff from my planning doc below and, while it's not that in-depth and a bit rambly, im sure it could help us get on the same page a little better :)

Minecraft -> IRL Mechanics

Elytra work mostly the same. They are held on by a harness and the hermits use rockets to propel themselves. They have to pull a string on the rocket and hold on, using the elytra to glide where they need to go. The rocket dissolves in their hand as they fly

Enchantments are studied for years and only certain hermits know how to practice them. They have to study them for years and help the others enchant their items, often setting up shops to make a profit from their knowledge. The hermits that can enchant and are relevant to the main storyline are:

Scar, Pearl, Grian (Learning from Scar), Xisuma

Instead of crafting recipes or online resources, they have a community library full of the same things that they’d find online. It’s usually busy w/ hermits searching for info and is separated by categories like redstone, enchanting, etc.

The chat is replaced by a system of communicators. They’re small and don’t take up inventory space. Every hermit has one and they can “mute” it if they please. They always have it after respawning, even if their things burned in lava. Communicators display their chats to the whole server, death messages, and can be used for private messaging. They also display who is AFK and offline.

When someone goes AFK, their name is greyed out on the communicator. They freeze in whatever position they were previously in and can hear and see whatever is going around them, but once they talk they won’t be AFK anymore. When you are AFK, you feel like you’re watching what’s going on through a screen and you can still die.

When someone goes offline, it is almost the same as being AFK. They are physically frozen wherever they had been last, but they cannot see or hear what is going on around them. They can also not be killed and their name disappears from the communicators.

When someone dies, their corpse lays wherever it’d been until they decide to respawn. It then disappears and the things that they’d had on them lay there in a pile. If they die in lava, everything that can burn will burn and they won’t be able to get it back. Items will not despawn and need to be thrown in lava to be disposed of. Respawning is like waking up from a bad dream or from being passed out and they respawn in their bed or at the world spawn if they did not have a bed set. Dying hurts just as it would in real life and can leave scars if they were killed by another player or a mob since those things would show up on the statistics page.

thats pretty much it! ofc theres some things like mob spawning, redstone, and other bits nd bobs, but those havent come up as much and redstone doesnt need to be that in depth imo

The more I think about it that means probably a 20-30 year old mod was fighting with me a 9 year old in 2009 over a fucking Total Drama Island fic. I fucking hate it here like that’s weird to me bc I’m 20 now and if I check someone’s blog and it says 16 I just leave and don’t even read their work bc they’re young and it’s weird -FF anon

eww you’re probably right. bc i remember when i was like 13 i’d read some lil fma fanfiction that was very obviously written by a 12yr old and these grown ass people would be in the comments writing a whole meta basically beefing w this kid over character portrayal or something. shit was weird :/
