idk it's always a bit weird to me when Cecil is characterised as "pure fluffy teddy bear who can't raise his voice he is too nice for this" Even as a Paladin. I mean....yeah Cecil is a good person and he absolutely can be kind. And tbh yeah he can be a little naive sometimes in the sense that he is a bit slow to question his trust to others (like he didn't even ask himself "hey maybe Baigan is a traitor too") But guy was a military captain. What happened in his transition from dark knight to paladin is that he cemented his will to move on from his bloody path and stopped being like "i am a dark knight it is my fate to be a monster". But like he is still himself. I mean, I don't think he slapped a grieving Edward because it was dark knight impulse, i think that it's probably just how you do it in the sky army sometimes (+ he was kind of a nervous wreck himself at this time) I refuse to believe that, even with the King's favor, he made it as a Captain of Baron's renowed fleet if he couldn't be harsh and stern sometimes. We even see him being stern to his troops. Also he is still somewhat socially awkward, to me
I don't really mind Dissidia Cecil though i do feel sometimes like he is somewhat on the edge making him fluffier than he is usually, though Dissidia is a special case they canonically are missing memories so it's weird to judge them.
