Sephiroth Crescent/Valentine
Any of my friends can tell you my absolute obsession with this man, and as an Aro/Ace it is definitely not because of his looks (though he IS aesthetically pleasing, not gonna lie). With the fairly recent release of the Final Fantasy VII remake, I thought I’d start off my character deductions with the man who fell victim to a corrupt power hungry company, a mad scientist, and an entity literally from out of this (his) world.
The start of his journey begins way back when Lucretia Crescent was still alive and Vincent Valentine was free from, well, everything Hojo and said woman did to him. Basically when he was still 100% all-natural human.
But I digress.
Sephiroth is the biological son of Lucretia and only has relation to Jenova because of cell transplants he was subjected to while still in the womb. Who his biological father is is a source of massive debate among fans and critics, though most say either Hojo or Vincent. Based off of looks I’d say Vincent, which would make Sephiroth an illegitimate Valentine. But since it is still up in the air in canon land, we’ll keep using Crescent as his surname.
Now being as the initial experiments started before he was even born, we have a clear case of everything that happens later on being not his fault. Did he ask to be implanted with a psychotic aliens genes? No. And in this instance the argument of nurture over nature doesn’t fly for several reasons.
Beyond the fact that Jenova is of an alien race not native to their world, this is also a fantasy universe where reality isn’t restricted by our own. Thus, it’s very possible that certain personality and emotional traits can be inherited - if not by the people born on the planet, then perhaps by those of extraterrestrial descent (this includes Genesis, Angeal, and anyone else exposed to Jenova cells - yes that means Cloud too).
As for the nurture side, well, Sephiroth was raised in a lab as an experiment. There is evidence that the only one involved in his development on a human level was one Professor Gast, who was killed early in the future general’s formative years for escaping with the last full-blooded Cetra to start a family outside of ShinRa’s clutches. Everyone else around the child treated him as a tool to be studied and honed for their employer.... if anyone thinks someone could even have a chance at turning out halfway normally after years or neglect and abuse like that then they need help. Like, psychological help.
Now I will admit he made some progress with Genesis and Angeal in later years, but after their defection the man was left adrift in a hostile environment that was literally the only life he had ever known, thus he mentally couldn’t bring himself to leave. It didn’t help that neither or them would explain what was going on to anyone, but that’s a psychological discussion for another time.
Anywho, by the time he went to Nibelheim with Zack and Cloud his mind was already stressed enough. The mental influence of Jenova only added to that stress, and upon discovering the truth of his birth it all became too much. His mind cracked under the pressure and Jenova struck. At this point he was nothing more than a puppet, and never really returned to himself. Not even during the events in Advent Children. He sounded and fought like himself, but he was so broken that he can easily be categorized as at the very least clinically insane.
My thoughts on this is that in Nibelheim he went insane with Jenova influencing him, but later was only the mask Jenova used to try and destroy the planet. He was a familiar foe that had a pretty fearsome reputation before she even came into the equation and she capitalized on this. Cloud and Co were the biggest threat to her plans, thus another reason she kept using the now fallen general. His very presence provoking deep rage in most of the party, and an angered enemy is more likely to make mistakes than an indifferent one. It is not unreasonable to assume she was knowledgeable in psychological warfare like this, as this was how she wormed her way into the Ancients so deeply that they didn’t notice until it was too late.
In conclusion, Sephiroth is more a victim of circumstance than a true villain and thus deserves all the love and attention. If I could I would adopt him as my own child but being as that’s not possible, I will just have to settle with fanfiction and my imagination.
I’m open to debate on any and all topics related to FFVII, so DM me if you’re interested. Also if there’s a character you really want my opinion on feel free to message me about that too.

Chipping away at Rebirth’s endgame and couldn’t help but simultaneously do a FF series playthrough on Steam Deck at the same time.
Am I replaying FF7 Remake for the third time? Yes, yes I am. Also as a heads up here’s how I’m doing that on my PS5.

I feel bad for both my guard hound and my wallet
Myles is coming home from his x-rays. They found no blockage in his system but noticed his liver is slightly smaller than normal. The vet said it could just be the way he is or he could have something called liver 'shunting' which means not all of his blood gets filtered properly. kinda of like a branch off thing that lets blood pass without being filtered like a fake ID e__e He's coming home, not going to be able to eat, and going back for a bunch of blood tests tomorrow. Damn, I feel bad for this dog. He gets put through everything when he's so well behaved. She also gave a list of recommendations. The vet said all of the tests would equal $239.06. He lost half a pound since he was there last!! He only weighs 7 pounds!! Just WTF?! Rufus should really look into the breeding program an' make sure these hounds are a lil' more healthy before handin'em out.
