All of Dawn's crushes had at one point been obsessed with Buffy. Not that Xander went anywhere with her despite trying a lot, but, like, Dawn had been head over heels for Spike and he’d been boinking Buffy the whole time. And even when it was some random high school boy like RJ, Buffy still won! Which, massive ew. Couldn’t the jacket have filtered for age? And sexual orientation also, now that she was thinking about it. This time, though, there’s no way Buffy can steal her crush, for a few reasons: 1. High schooler. And Dawn is pretty sure this crush doesn’t have any magically enhanced pieces of clothing, so hopefully there’s not going to be a repeat of those unfortunate events. 2. She’s so not telling Buffy about it. It’ll be her own, private secret that won’t get messed up by all the Chosen One stuff. Shoot, she might’ve just jinxed it. 3. Girl. The crush is a girl, and Buffy’s not like that.

Or: Dawn has a crush on a girl, and she opens up to Willow. Because Buffy can't relate. Right?

Being a Slayer comes with all sorts of physical enhancements—abnormal strength, heightened reflexes, vampire tinglies, that sort of thing. Good aim doesn’t automatically come with the package. That is a skill honed with every vampire and demon slain. And after a couple years living in Sunnydale, Buffy’s a damn good shot. When she’s in the middle of a fight, she goes on autopilot. She lets her body do what it does best. Her arm will aim for the heart. She’ll kill the monster. She’ll save the day. Buffy sinks the dagger into the chest of her enemy, panting from the physical exertion. It's a routine she knows well. Only, it’s different. Because she just stabbed Faith. In the heart.

“You know I will,” Fig says, smiling. Every time Fig smiles, Ayda remembers just how lucky she is to have found her. And she’s so full of joy around Ayda that she finds Fig smiling quite frequently, loud and bright and full of teeth, much like Fig herself. But Fig has the normal amount of teeth, so it’s more that she’s full of bite. Is that a normal thing to think about your significant other? Ayda should ask. Point is, Fig’s smile is delightful. And it makes Ayda feel delightful because she is so often the one causing it. It’s quite a foreign concept for her, feeling delightful, but a welcome one.

“Giles? Giles?” She calls out when she doesn’t see him. “Giles! This is important! I just ran into Buffy in the bathroom and something is seriously wrong with her. I mean, she’s all…” Cordelia pauses. She can’t quite pin down what exactly was up with her. Mean? No, she’d ran for bitch of the year before, that’s not special. Mentally unstable? No, again, that’s pretty par for the Buffy course. Only natural, considering the job, she supposes. Weird Catholic schoolgirl getup? Strange to be sure, but Cordelia has been baffled by her fashion choices many times. Maybe the constant killing had finally broken Buffy and led her to god. Besides, she already had enough crosses she could fool most people into thinking she’s some Jesus freak, as opposed to what she really is: a regular freak. “...brunette.”

Or: Kathryn is at Sunnydale High, and only Cordelia seems to know what's going on with her.

Every day, Willow watches Tara die. Multiple times a day, actually. Almost always, really. The gruesome film plays nonstop on the backs of her eyelids. Over and over. Every night when she tries to sleep, every blink, every time she squints when the sun’s too bright. Again and again and again. She’s begged them to stop. Pleaded for her mind to replace it with some other horror—the looks of fear on her friends’ faces, their bodies struck down by her uncontrollable power, Warren being flayed alive, anything she deserves to feel guilty about. But her body wouldn’t listen, the traitor. The change in scenery didn’t help, either.
