Heyo! I was just wondering about the fics on AO3 - are they anonymous, but can still be viewed by people? Because I’ve submitted mine and kudos have already been left. Unless that’s just you two, I don’t think that’s suppose to happen.

Is there a max word count for fanfics? I'm not done with mine yet, but I'm almost at min word count and the characters haven't even met yet, so just checking.

of course! you can do what you wish with your gift when the secret santa is over; it is by no means our property, it is all yours and you can do whatever you want!

it’d be really preferable if your word count reached 2,500.
message us and we can assign you to a beta reader who can help you boost your word count! you could brainstorm and bounce ideas back and forth with your beta reader :D (you could also do this with a friend, if you’d prefer!)
If I’m an impatient person who hates waiting for AO3 invites, can I make my gift a post on its own and tag my giftee in it? Or does it strictly need to be AO3 through you guys?
posting it through ao3 is a MUST! this way, anonymity (at least until the Grand Reveal™ on january 7th) will be kept and your giftee will receive it from a “secret” santa.
also, ao3 is pretty quick about invites, as far as i know. it really shouldn’t take longer than a day or two (even if you sign up without receiving an invite code from us).

1. ao3 invites are not necessary to sign up, they just give you a pass through the waitlist that ao3 has. you can ask anyone with an ao3 account if they have any invites (accessible via clicking on the user’s icon at the top of the page, clicking “Invitations” in the top right corner, and then you need the recipient’s email). @viclouis just got 5 more from Archive of Our Own, but since they are limited we highly recommend jumping on that waitlist if she runs out.
2. for the companion piece, please please try to hit at least 1.5k!
is there a maximum for fic entries?
you’re only allowed to submit one ao3 fanfiction link (must be a single link—but it can be multi-chaptered or have multiple stories within the chapters. however, a series would not work for this even though it can be sent in as a single link).
this is because you will be initially posting as an anonymous author, so it be difficult to differentiate between authors and the fics they’ve written if there are multiple entries.
