Meet my two newest additions to the plant family; Eleanor, and Charlie!

Eleanor is a little over 60 centimetres tall, a Christmas gift and has been wire trained (unfortunately because it left massive scars in her bark) into that twisty shape. I hand made the little swing out of a canvas key that fits in none of my canvases, and the ceramics have been lying around in my room forever.

Charlie is a birthday gift, and is still little. Charlie's also got lovely exposed roots, as pictured below. I read that bonsais should be repotted every year for ten years, so I'll be repotting both of them at the end of next year, Eleanor for maybe a year or two and Charlie for maybe 7 years. The nurseries unfortunately didn't age them so everything is guesswork.

Both are Ficus Ginseng bonsais. I also got liquid feed for them, and feed them every Saturday. They live on a pretty table by the window, which is idyllic

Being at my Parent's for the last week is making me homesick, I miss the big plants I couldn't bring with me, I hope they're okay and know I'm thinking of them.

Can't wait for this to all be over.

Guys!

My bonsai (ginseng Ficus) has been with me for 6-7 years now and I adore her. Recently I got a humidifier because I got some plants that like humidity and its hot here so im actually simulating the Bonsai's natural environment and!! She exploded with so much growth and is now growing aerial roots for like! The first time!! I wanna show pics but I'm gonna put it under a cut bc they look like weird tendrils that might be unpleasant to look at!

Those yellow things that look like tendrils are aerial roots! Basically they grow from the base of the tree, on the picture on the right; you can see a bunch starting to sprout on the other side! So they grow out and down towards the soil. You can actually guide them into an aesthetic shape with paper straws but I yhink I'll just let her be natural. But once they root, the portions on the outside harden and effectively create layered structure around the tree thats very uhh.. like its a sign that 1) my plant is extremely happy and 2) its beginning to show its maturity. The roots create more structure and support and a bonsai with a lot of these layered structures you can generally assume its fairly old. Im so excited!
