Gavin x MC The Three Forbidden Words
Word Count: 1,076
Rating: a lil sugar and spice, but everything nice ;)
Back pinned against the wall, Gavin placed his hands on either side of Yuna’s head effectively caging her in. She fidgeted under his intense and penetrating stare.
“What did you just say?” His eyes glimmered with hope and another emotion that she couldn’t quite place as he leaned in dangerously close. Their breath mingled between them, and she found herself unable to look at anywhere other than him.
She was sure he heard her say it the first time.
Flashback
Yuna twiddled her thumbs on Gavin’s couch as he typed up reports for work on his laptop. The two of them had been working in silence for the past hour and a half, but her mind kept roaming to another more important thought.
‘Am I really going to say it…?’ Her head spun contemplating the idea. She placed a hand on her chest to calm her furious heart.
She inconspicuously gazed at Gavin’s side profile as he continued to work peacefully totally engrossed in the work ahead of him.
For the past month, the notion had occurred to her on numerous occasions, but the words always remained rooted to the tip of her tongue. Initially, she wondered why Gavin hadn’t come out and said it to her in the first place. She even began to wonder if maybe he really didn’t see her that way at all.
However, his small actions of affirmation said otherwise. The way he softly gazed at her when he thought she wasn’t looking. His gentleness when he gently caressed her cheek and planted a kiss to her head. A protective hand at the small of her back when they walked in a crowd. Flying with her on starry nights to see the beautiful view… the list could go on for forever.
Eventually, she realized that Gavin was patiently giving her the power to decide where their relationship would go, never pushing her beyond limits that he wasn’t sure she was ready for. She certainly was more than grateful and touched by his thoughtfulness, but initiating anything romantic was always a weak point for her.
She ran through all the possible ways she could say it.
Prepare a surprise? Too corny.
After a passionate make out session? Too embarrassing.
Whisper it in his ear? Too risque.
‘At this rate, I should just blurt it out.’ Yuna inwardly sighed exasperated by her lack of creativity. How could something he easily made her feel be so difficult to say?
“You’ve been staring at me with a serious face for 10 minutes now. Is there something you want to tell me?” Gavin shut his laptop and turned to look at her questioningly.
“Oh, sorry I didn’t mean to stare. I just…” She trailed off cheeks staining rouge at having been caught. “I really want that special tea you bought the other day. I didn’t know how to ask.” She grinned sheepishly while twisting a stand of her hair.
Gavin narrowed his eyes at her in suspicion before slowly responding, “Are you sure that’s all you want to say?”
“Um, yeah. There’s nothing else special.” She didn’t miss the disappointment that flashed quickly across his face. Her heart sank.
“It’s in the cabinet above the toaster.” He remained impassive as he pulled his laptop back open.
“Ohh okay thanks. Sorry for worrying you. I was just kinda zoning out thinking about… the tea.” Yuna stood awkwardly from the couch to rearrange her papers and notes on the table taking great care not to make eye contact with him.
Gavin raised an eyebrow at her uncharacteristic behavior. “You must really love the tea a lot to stare at me that long contemplating how to ask for it.”
She chuckled nervously. “Yea I really do love it…” then paused before casually adding. “Just like how I love you.”
For a brief moment the room was incredibly silent. A flurry of words erupted from Yuna’s mouth to hide her embarrassment. “But anyways, do you want the green or red cup because I want the red this time. It has a nicer handle and has the cute bird on it. Oh and let me go brew the tea real quick. Just keep doing your work, okay? Thanks!”
Without turning to see Gavin’s reaction, she briskly made her way to the kitchen with her heart hammering in her chest. Not even a moment later was Gavin at his feet and spinning her back to face him.
End of Flashback
Yuna looked up at Gavin with apprehension. In that moment, with a ray of sunlight glistening on his face, he seemed to appear even more handsome, and she wanted to look away fearing that this moment was unreal.
“Yuna what did you just say?” He repeated pleading for affirmation.
She slowly lifted her hands up and held onto his shoulders. She shyly murmured, “I love you.”
Then his lips were on hers, and all she could feel and think about was him. Backing her further up against the wall, he kissed her with enough passion and fervor for her to know just how long he’s waited to hear those three forbidden words. He gripped her hips and smiled into the kiss when she stood on her tip toes to press herself more firmly against him.
It took every ounce of restraint in his body to pull away from her. For a moment all they could hear was one another’s labored breathing.
Gavin brushed aside her bangs, rested his forehead lightly on hers, and whispered breathily, “Say it again.”
Yuna’s eyes opened to find him staring deeply at her with a smile dancing on his lips. In a gentle, timid voice she breathed out, “I love you.”
He kissed her forehead and nose in encouragement. “Again.”
Laughing, she more confidently proclaimed her love for him once more.
“Again.” This time he was trailing kisses from her jaw to her neck, and she could feel him grinning against her skin.
“Gavin!” She exclaimed loudly laughing at his childish behavior.
The sound was music to his ears as he easily picked her up to spin her by the waist like it was just him and her in their own little world. He had on the biggest and brightest smile that she’d ever seen on him, and the sight caused her heart to race a little more and butterflies to erupt in her stomach.
“I love you.” This time she said it with no hesitation.
