A frame I painted for all my known violin-playing ancestors to be opened when I practice my violin.
On the cover, seaweed and blueberries frame the violin (Acadian shores and Saguenay woods).
On the corresponding leaflets, the marshes around Peggy’s Cove, and the view from my grandma’s cottage on the Saguenay River.
At the back, I included Psalm 57:7-8 to bring in musical scripture, and a composed prayer by me for Saint Cecilia and the Holy Spirit.
“Saint Cecilia and Hagia Sophia, “pull up a log” (French Canadian expression meaning grab a seat) and play with me. May my violin awaken my roots and echo across the vast ocean of the afterlife where the souls of my dearly departed violinists and dancers rest in peace and joy. Amen.”
The frame has the inscription “fiddlers”, as we call them “violoneux” in our communities.
