yeah, she supposes this is goodbye—           meg doesn’t know what it’s like to feel heartbroken, but she thinks that this is pretty close; the aching feeling in her heart and the way her lungs threatened to give out on her at any moment.                 ”are you going to cry?”

Words are pointless when her answer is staining her cheeks,  drowning brown pupils in a sea of red, streaming anew down her face -- unspoken yet screaming a thousand words. Redundancy has no place here; she'll neither insult Meg's intelligence by confirming what's so obvious, nor will she degrade either of them by denying it.

                            " ---- Are you?" 

There's no sarcasm, no bite at all --  it's a simple inquiry, concern her only motive left, but it passes her lips in a whisper she doubts the demon even                                      heard.
