I've had nervous habits for as long as I can remember, I'm pretty anxious - my teacher told me off for cracking my knuckles when I was 9 (ten years ago). I still always do things with my hands when I'm around people, which I've been told looks dumb, and I can't stop cracking my fingers. I've tried everything and I really want to stop but it's something I do without thinking, + it makes me calm. Please help me find a way to stop, I know it's not harmful but I don't like doing it.
This is something that a lot of people struggle with and is probably way more normal than you think. I too have so many nervous habits all throughout my life. I have found that having something productive to do with my hands really helps me with this anxiety piece. There are so many fidget toys that are designed just for this, so that would be what I would encourage you to look into those. They are awesome! and they keep your hands busy in a non dangerous ways.
this place has awesome fidget toys.
Habits are really hard to break so by starting with replacing it with a toy is a good start. Take it one step at a time. Start by trying to recognize while you are doing it and trying to stop yourself or distract yourself with something else.
There are other ways to help yourself calm down anon and it is good that you want to stop this habit.
