They would stare at each other as the world is ending around them. It’s how all battles look like — the fire raining around them, the bullets flying, the bodies dropping. The decor, whole background, would be destroyed, ruins littering the ground, vegetation steaming, yells elevating among the destruction.
They would be so close to each other, knowing it could be the last time, knowing they will make sure they have more time.
And they would take these seconds trapped between two heartbeats to lean into each other, breathe into their shared life, still pulsing through their veins—
He would be the first one to act. He had always been like that, after all, so the situation would definitely follow his pattern.
He would crash his lips against his, one of his hands on his cheek, and he would answer the kiss with his whole heart. They would stop, and go again, and then continue until they’re breathless and ready for the fight of their life. Then—
“See you down the line,” he would say, and he would answer with a smirk of his own.
“As always,” he would respond, and his words would be carried by the wind, singing the immovable love of two men lost in the middle of war—

“Eddie?” asks Oliver, an eyebrow raised under his mask, snapping his fingers in front of his face.
Eddie shakes his head and coughs, something red on his cheeks for no apparent reasons — maybe a cold?
“Yeah, yeah,” he answers. “I’m fine with the plan. Let’s go.”
He looks out of it, but leaves all the same — Ollie considers following him an instant, before shrugging.
Starfire waited as her fellow food-gathering and water-finding team members shuffled to the side, away from the commotion of dividing everyone into groups. She was overjoyed that her assembly of hunter/gatherers consisted of friends: the teen speedster, the blonde geokinetic, and Argent the Australian heroine.
The Tamaranean girl smiled, greeting each one with an enthusiastic (and bone-crushing) hug. "Kid Flash!" she exclaimed. Crunch. "Friend Terra!" she squealed. Smoosh. "And Argent!" she gleefully cried. Crack. "I feared that I was to be alone on this island of tropicalness, yet it turns the out that it is full of friends," Starfire told them, fully relieved.
"I know that we are to locate the water and the food," Starfire said as she moved on to discuss the task at hand. "...But is the ocean not water?" she asked innocently. To the alien girl, salt water was no different than how an overly salty soup or broth is to the average human. It would take a substantial amount of sea water to have an adverse effect on her and she assumed that it was the same for everyone else.
"What I should have done a long time ago." He growled, his booted foot resting firmly on the speedster's broken leg, a pistol trained on the young man's head.
