The Field Maple (Acer campestre) is the only true native maple species in the UK. Surprisingly, all the other maple species we see in woods, parks, and gardens were introduced by humans. The Field Maple is an adaptable tree that grows well in natural as well as urban areas of the UK. This small tree, which rarely exceeds 20 meters at full maturity, plays host to numerous species of birds, insects, and mammals. Field Maples are very diverse in leaf shape and size, so even if the trees in your local area don't look exactly like mine they are still probably Field Maples.
