A little bit late for field blewits but it’s been a cold winter and chilly start to the Spring. I’ve always said I hate these and today I tried much smaller, younger ones and they actually were good on the tops. Stems had a bit of that 😫 blurgh taste. I got a whole load of fungi to share still while I get my head around photographing some new items for the shop. This Field Blewit came from a mycelium ring in our front yard. They’re so perfect. It’s such a shame my husband has a bit of a reaction to them and I don’t like how they smell when they cook. The Blewit mushroom (which seems to be the all encompassing name for the Wood Blewit and Field Blewit). They are edible and purple!!! Though they can turn tan or light brown as they age. This is another mushroom that should be cooked before you eat it (though I dont know how many mushrooms out there you can just eat raw). From what I've read they aren't a beginner foraging mushroom, a little harder to first identify.
