And that's not to say that River would not go to the Library if she realized what he was doing. "Not one line."
No, the best way would be for the Doctor to tell River and then try to find a way to make the 10th Doctor believe that River has died. That way the timeline continues as the Doctor remembers.
I'm not saying it couldn't be done, but it would be very tricky to make sure it would work out to have the desired results.
