" waaaa~ " jinnie let out a loud gasp, her wide eyes fixated on the television in front of her. on screen, princess leia ( controlled by her ) bounced around an open field, attempting to avoid an onslaught of bullets from an opponent in a jack skellington skin. she was downright terrible at fortnite; that much was obvious by the very few times she'd played with either deiji or minseok. but she always wanted to learn, since it was something they enjoyed so much. that was precisely how the two braveheart girls found themselves curled up on their incredibly plush couch, enjoying a night in with video games at their luxury apartment.

" unnie ! unnie, help me~ i— how do i switch weapons again ? " the redhead squeaked, turning her head to look at her leader. deiji had been coaching her through the entire match and honestly, it was a wonder how she was still alive. she barely wanted to shoot anyone and kept getting fall damage whenever she tried to explore. " ohh, like this ? " jinnie finally switched over in her inventory but instead of a weapon, she ended up chucking a shield potion at the jack skellington's head. it would have been comical how it bounced off his head if it wasn't for the fact she got eliminated one second after. the maknae pouted as 'you placed #73' flashed on the screen. " oh that's not too bad. . . better than before ? " jinnie sighed as she passed over the controller to her sister.

     jinnie truthfully had a love hate relationship when it came to lives. when the vibes were great, she had the best time in the world, talking to valentines and indulging all of their silly whims. but when it was bad ? it was bad. the comments could be cruel or demanding, and it left the maknae wishing she’d never opened herself up to it all to begin with. that was why she always preferred doing them with one of the members. it was safer and far more enjoyable that way. so when the company suggested that braveheart split into duos to promote the latest comeback on live, the brunette claimed deiji as her partner with a quickness.

the two sat on the couch in deiji’s hotel room, the nondescript windowed wall behind them to obscure their location as much as possible. their manager’s phone was attached to a mini-tripod, a ring light connected on the back. on the coffee table in front of them, to-go containers of coxinha, bauru, and churros were waiting to be eaten. jinnie was already dying to dive in but first, they had to start the live. “ ready, unnie ? ” she glanced over at the leader as she reached out to the phone, pressing the red button once she got confirmation. almost instantaneously, the viewer count started growing and comments came flooding in. “ hello~ ! ” jinnie exclaimed with a wave, ever the angel maknae. grabbing one of the coxinhas, she held it up so that valentines could see. “ we wanted to have lunch with everyone. ”

     “ good morning, everyone ! ” jinnie greeted with perhaps far more energy than needed. dance practices could be a bit of a grueling process, especially on a monday at eight o’clock in the morning. so, it seemed like mustering as much enthusiasm as possible was necessary. carefully cradling three drinks from starbucks in her arms, the maknae first approached deiji to offer up her usual pistachio latte. then, she walked across the studio to dae, smiling politely as she handed over the iced black coffee. “ i got your coffee order from your managers. ” she explained as she bowed her head. jinnie honestly couldn’t believe that the older woman drunk it black. how hardcore.

     now that her arms were freed up, she clutched her own drink in her hand — just a hot chocolate for her. the brunette’s sweet tooth would always outweigh any need for caffeine. “ i hope everyone slept well. ” taking a slow sip, jinnie hummed in satisfaction as the warm, sweet sensation coursed through her. she already felt more than ready for the day. her excitement for this sub-unit was at an all time high. “ i thought. . . maybe we should work on the chorus first ? ”

     jinnie looked over at the two older women, her sloppy smile and flushed cheeks betraying any sign of sobriety in the moment — but she was enjoying herself too much to really care. for the past couple of months, the three of them had worked diligently to make v!olet a success and now it felt like all of that pressure was in the rearview mirror. the sub-unit finally debuted and was being received well by the public. that was all the maknae could have ever hoped for. it only seemed right that the three of them celebrated all of their hard work. the best way to do that ( in jinnie’s opinion ) was with food. that was exactly how the small group found themselves at a secluded table in the corner of langosteria, the surface covered by plates of pasta, steak, and wine. happily, jinnie forked more linguine between her lips, humming in satisfaction at the warm, delicious flavor that filled her mouth. milan was definitely going on the top of her list for stops, solely on the food alone.

      “ this is so yummy. you have to try it. ” she spoke up, enthusiastically pushing her plate towards both deiji and dae. the action was a little less graceful than usual, mainly because she was a little bit tipsy. “ but first, i think we should make a toast. ” the young idol suggested, grabbing her glass of wine to hold up. “ to v!olet and all of our dedication ! ”

     “ unnie, this is far too much. ” jinnie wasn’t one to complain, but upon noticing how many clothes deiji planned to buy for her, she had to protest. even if only meekly. her beloved leader had such a tendency to spoil her and while the redhead was grateful for it, she also didn’t feel worthy of it a lot of the time. the older woman had been taking care of her since the very beginning, and jinnie adored her for it. besides, she’d admit that it was a bit of an amusing sight — seeing one of their poor bodyguards ladled down with a stack of clothes of various colors as he followed behind them. she tried not to get distracted with a giggle as she looked at deiji with wide eyes. “ at least let me pay ? ”

haneul's eyes cut towards deiji's direction. getting sentimental with one another wasn't their thing. her words were far too genuine for his liking, causing his chest to tighten. never in a million years did he imagine that he and daisy of braveheart would be sitting here like this, trading conversations and looks like they'd spent an entire childhood doing so across too polite dining tables. " don't start this shit. " he replied, all too exasperated. the sad sincerity in deiji's eyes caused him to pause his usual banter. with a deep sigh, haneul took a moment to re-think his words before speaking again. " fine. i'm glad we're friends too. "

jinnie's eyebrows raised in surprise. the answer was so obvious to her that she couldn't fathom deiji asking her that. " of course you are, unnie. are you kidding ? you raised me. " the maknae didn't say those words lightly. she'd been a little girl when she met the other, and deiji had seemed untouchable in her eyes ever since. the leader protected and nurtured her like no other for nearly nine years now. she had a good heart. anyone who said otherwise clearly didn't know the real hwang deiji, the one behind the beautiful mask that she gives to the world. " you always say i'm the best person, well. . . who do you think i got it from, unnie ? "
