When I first started doing burlesque I was very invested in doing very proper pinup make up. Around the same time when I started kinging I was also very invested in looking completely passable and manly and unclockable. The last few years, however my aesthetic has changed – now I find that I like to do sort of clownish, over-the-top, old-fashioned, almost "bad drag" makeup. For me it serves two purposes: 1. It's fun, silly, and character driven. 2. It's a reminder to the audience that what I'm selling is is an illusion-both my masculinity and femininity are projections. I'm showing you what I want you to see. In that way I like to think that I'm sparking almost a little bit of a conversation about gender, sexuality, and this perplexing idea of "realness." #fiercequeerburlesque #burlesque #behindthescenes #baddrag #face #sorryaboutthetoiletshot #notglamorous
