BROWS FURROW; IT SOUNDS LIKE AN ACCUSATION, BUT FEELS LIKE A COMPLIMENT — though he wouldn't use the word ‘stubborn’. maybe ‘tenacious’? ‘resolute’? still, it draws a laugh from him, the insinuation, and were he not chided at already to stay still, hands would raise in defense. words will have to do ( a lot of the time, they're all he has, what's new? ) ; ❝ hey, you can't seriously blame me for that. we're rangers. what would it be like if we just rolled over? being stubborn comes with the job. ❞ and what he really wants to say is off-limits, that it's the sorta thing you get from your parents. jason lets it go with a huff; picking your battles? that's a tactic, and with kim … well. success rates vary. he thinks he's got her though as he rolls easily into laying comfort around her, ❝ you don't have to worry, kim — seriously. i've got the best doctor with the worst bedside manner. i'll live; we all will. ❞ hopefully that's good enough? truth is, he lost track of the enemy. there's just a lot on his mind. dad's sick. mom calls and he doesn't answer and he forgets to call her back. he doesn't call his friends, really. they have enough on their plate, and with trini and zack, he should be able to manage. should be. jason is assuring her as much as he is himself when he says, ❝ today was an accident. it won't happen again. ❞ ( he hopes. that, too, is all he has most times )
still, he gets that crush of gravity like he's disappointed her somehow? that feeling of being a burden hammers beneath his ribcage, weighty and familiar, though he would call it healthy as a horse, ready and rearing to get back out there already. … maybe she's right, jason realizes as she settles next to him. maybe he needs tommy's flack to set him straight. thing is he just doesn't want to hear it. with kim, with tommy, you pick your battles. that thing about the people you know and becoming like them … he decides his battleground with a playfully accusing finger pointed her way, motion of his arm knocking the dressing wrapped ‘round his bicep askew, but jason doesn’t pay it any mind — a war against her concern, and he intends to win, no matter the sigh count, ❝ but you wanna call tommy up? bet he'd answer for you. i mean, you're worried? i'm worried. i leave for a hardly any time at all and there's already fraternizing among the troops — ❞ all mock serious, leader-like with his gaze so very stern on her while he plays at a make believe job structure, ❝ do we have an HR? you call tommy. i'll call them. how about it? ❞

He chippers up at finally being noticed - granted, he'd very much hoped he wouldn't have to speak up. Makes him feel better that way. Still, a win is a win, and he finds the smile on his lips reaching pleasant tone.
"Help me, you can!" He hops out of the cup, pressing to un-shrink and settling somewhere in front of her. "I couldn't help but notice your international arrest warrants when I was very casually surfing the web." ( That is to say: hacking into Drakken's very feeble system and thus accessing the astonishingly limited personnel and their records. But tomato to-mah-to! ). "You wouldn't happen to feel like risking a twelfth, would you? I always find that eleven is a very sad number. It's two ones. And one is, as we all know, the loneliest number."
@fifthimpact . . . nat would sit there and watch more impressed than anything else
Charlie could probably break into her place, but it won't be on purpose and will involve ingesting at least one whole security camera.
@fifthimpact asked: do you think that's a good idea? / from clint
Bobbi narrowed her eyes, folding her arms as she shifted her weight to one leg. Clint’s voice still lingered in the air, edged with that quiet skepticism she knew too well. He wasn’t attacking the plan—he never did outright—but the question hung between them. She didn’t answer right away. She didn’t need to. He could read her silences almost as well as she could read his hesitation.
“I wouldn’t have suggested it if I thought it was going to get us killed,” she finally said, her tone cool but not sharp. Bobbi didn’t look at him right away, instead scanning the layout of the warehouse across the street, eyes calculating. “It’s risky, sure, but it’s clean. Minimal collateral. Fast extraction. You know as well as I do, Clint—we don’t always get the luxury of a perfect plan.” There was a confidence in her voice, but underneath it, the familiar tension of two operatives who had lived through too many bad calls to not feel every weight of possibility.
She turned to face him then, the faintest smirk curling on her lips. “Besides, when have we ever done things the safe way?” There was affection in her words, hidden beneath the banter, a quiet dare to trust her—again. Bobbi knew Clint’s doubts weren’t just about the plan. They never were. And maybe that’s what made her heart beat a little harder.
