Hey fellow UK people...
Looks like the fash did distressingly well in the elections, at least for the councils in England.
This is horrifying. It doesn't change the fight. If you're feeling scared right now, you're not the only one, but fundamentally there are enough of us to make a difference. I'm going to make a small additional (I donate to them monthly too) donation to the Good Law Project as part of my response to the results. I've linked it here for your convenience in case you wish to do the same. :)
Good Law Project | We use the law to resist hate and bring hope – injustice is not inevitable.
Some other ideas for things you could do as part of your response to the election results:-
donate to the Refugee Council, Scottish Refugee Council, Asylum Aid, or other refugee rights group
donate to Amnesty, and perhaps get involved with your local group
go to a community small-scale environmental event such as a beach-clean or park-clean or river-clean. Meet some other people near you who care about the area.
buy from a small trader who is an immigrant, Black, Muslim, trans, queer, disabled, or otherwise part of a group that Reform are hateful towards
learn some Welsh, Scots, Gaelic, and/or BSL
learn some of a language spoken by immigrant (esp. refugee) groups in your area
if you aren't already a member of a political party, consider joining one of those that is active in your area, anti-fascist, pro-refugee, pro-LGBT+, and that aligns best with your own ideas (I'm a Scottish Greens member, but your mileage may and probably will vary!)
if you aren't already registered to vote, fix that!
get involved with a local climate cafe or other green group
donate to a mutual aid fundraiser
sign one or more petitions for better things happening in the UK (one that would make Reform angry by definition is one that will benefit everyone)
if you can, boycott big businesses that donate to Reform, especially everything to do with Elon Musk
be extra nice today to everyone UK person you know who isn't *all* of white, a non-immigrant, cishet, abled, and a man. And also even those who are all of those things if he's someone who gives a shit about people other than himself! All of us are I think feeling a bit rubbish today.
if you're in Scotland and a tenant, consider joining Living Rent (the tenants' union, utterly fantastic and the more support they get the better!)
practise the pronouns of the trans people you know, make sure you never park in front of a drop kerb, be pleasant to customer service people, do your recycling, offer help to people locally when you can... being decent and lovely shouldn't be political but the whole thing about fascists is that they want everyone to be our worst selves, so right now it is
pick your battles; remember that being relentlessly judgemental towards fellow marginalised people making minor mistakes is actively encouraged by bad actors online because it enables divide-and-rule and stops us working together.
