Fighter Fly
I don't think I've ever really seen an artwork actually capture the energy of the Fighter Fly in how I saw their original design from the sprite, so I figured the only person that could manifest it at this point would be myself
You're the brand new act at the carnival, You're one of us now! You're better off if you can just accept it 🎪
An animated adaptation of a snippet from the Atari Mario Bros. commercial. This was my second time making an animation for YouTube and Newgrounds. People actually liked it!
Did you know it received a Daily Pick trophy on Newgrounds? I'm just as surprised as everyone else!
Every Super Mario Spikers sidekick I've done IN ORDER (part 2)
For last year’s October art event I drew my favorite creatures from Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga and Partners in Time! This year, I’ll draw my faves from Bowser’s Inside Story and Dream Team! for starters, I’ll post some nice group pictures I edited of last year’s guys! ==:)
Name: Fighter Fly
Debut: Mario Bros.
Seeing as how we’ve covered both Shellcreepers and Sidesteppers (and even the elusive Para-Goombas), I’d say we should complete the trio of original Mario Bros. enemies and give Fighter Flies their time in the spotlight! They’re definitely one of my favourites.
In the original arcade game, Fighter Flies are basically the precursor to Paratroopas- they hop up and down, and you can’t hit them from below when they’re airborne. But... what’s with that sprite? The artwork is so happy-looking, yet in-game, they look so upset!
Yeah, turns out Fighter Flies have never had a consistent design, and maybe they never will. When they next appear in Super Mario Land, they look more like their sprite, toothy grin and all.
In ports and remakes, like Super Mario All-Stars and Super Mario Advance, they were given a yellow, fleshy look, complete with a nose. I can’t say I’m a big fan of the Maya the Bee style of bug design, but... well, it could be worse.
Ho-ho! Now THIS is a good cartoon bug! I’m gonna go right out and say it, Superstar Saga and its remake has my favourite Fighter Fly design. It’s got all the charm from the original sprite, but it fits in with all the modern enemies! He even rubs his hands like an actual fly, the sneaky jerk.
And... that’s the end of this post! I’m ending it on a positive note. There is absolutely nothing else to say about Fighter Fly. He has no other notable redesigns. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll go hide behind this “Keep reading” banner for no particular reason at all.
