        diana was struggling for air, the pain in her neck almost too overwhelming. strains of blood ran through her fingers that she pressed against the wounded place on her neck. the candles that had initially surrounded her, have all been blown out and knocked over.

        "they ... they took the ring." the witch breathed, shakingly withdrawing her hand from her neck and stared at her blood-smeared palm after she had mumbled a healing spell to stop the bleeding.

     There was absolutely nothing to be nervous about. He's just meeting one of Freya's closest friends ( and a member of her family ) for the first time. He only has to make a good impression.  Nothing to worry about. Not like he's never done the 'meet the family' before. Oh wait - he's never done it before! Not to mention Freya's family was NEXT LEVEL. His thoughts were racing, but as the door opened, he no longer had any time to fret or worry or come up with twenty different ways this could go wrong. In she walked. Hayley. 

     Nick gave her a charming smile and offered his hand to shake. "Hi. You must be Hayley. I'm Nick. Freya told me a lot about you." So far so good, let’s just hope he doesn’t screw this up.

Rebekah had already risked a lot by meeting with the Alpha that ran the pack on this side of Chicago. But meeting with the Alpha’s cousin in secret after not getting what she wanted? She was leaving a dangerous amount to chance, but the alternative– doing nothing but hope– was just as risky and without the autonomy. Yet, Rebekah doubted she would walk away completely empty-handed this time. It was the memory of the woman’s expression when her cousin talked over her that drove Rebekah across town, cloche hat worn low on her brow and daylight ring on her finger– the only item on her that would give a clue to her immortal status. To the authorities, she was a model citizen of Prohibition-era Chicago. To anyone else, they knew she was anything but once the sun set on the city. Yes, Chicago was the perfect home to follow New Orleans, to jazz as well as Rebekah and Klaus Mikaelson. But that was what worried her. With everything that migrated from New Orleans to Chicago, she was nervous that her sins would be next.

Coming up to the apartment door, she knocked and waited patiently for an answer. When the door swung open, Rebekah’s lips curled into a half-smile, half-smirk. “Hayley, isn’t it? You remember me. Rebekah Mikaelson. I have a proposition for you.” Something in her gut told her that the werewolf would be of a like-mind to her own. Perhaps she’d have to tease that out of her, but it would be well worth the work. “Are you alone?”

It’s a stealth mission. She should be in the courtyard with the other students, but she’s making her way up the stairs of the Mikaelson School while she shoots Hope a text message that goes unanswered instead, and pocketing her phone in her shiny, modern blazer as she peeks around the corner. Last she checked, the staff was accounted for, and no one would see her sneaking to Hope’s room in the middle of the day to retrieve a precious lost item. But, as she takes long strides down the hall, and then another, and then another, and finds Hope’s door ajar, she’s speaking before she even gets the chance to nudge it open, knowing well she would’ve been able to pick up her footsteps from the hallway anyway. “Hope, I’ve been texting you all morning. The bra I left under your bed is very expensive and I neeeeeee–––” 

She stops dead in her tracks, once she opens the door, frozen, looking at Hope’s mother like she’s been caught with her hands in the cookie jar. “–– eed... The earth to swallow me and never spit me back out.”
