I HAVE A SUDDEN DESIRE TO FIND ALL MY MIDDLE SCHOOL INTERNET FRIENDS SO IF YOU WERE ON FIGMENT.COM IN THE EARLY 2010S AND YOU WERE IN A GROUP CALLED THE MCRMY PLS HIT ME UP IT’S YOUR GIRL TOXIC ORCHID I WAS AN ADMIN AND I WROTE A LOT OF REALLY SHITTY FANFICTION (y’all remember Keep Running there was an Killjoys OC she liked Queen she smooched on Gerard a lot she was Korse’s daughter it caused dramatic tension that was me) AND I LOVED YOU ALL A LOT AND I’M ALSO GAY NOW
I find it kinda weird that not as any people go to Figment as a writing website anymore because (at least for me) people got really obsessive over someone leaving a heart on their stories. Like, trade-heart-for-heart became a thing. People would heart a story just to have their own stories read. The comments section would usually be "yeah good story now heart mine kthxbye". And that's so weird to me now cause can you even imagine that happening on Ao3? Just a Gollum-esque pursuit of kudos on your own story and nothing else? "Hey man, so I heard you liked kudos. I've got a kudos button, you've got a kudos button, I think we can make this happen..."
Here's what you need to know!
What does this mean for you?
You will have until at least January 31, 2018, to log into Figment.com and save anything you’d like to hold onto, including your stories, poems, and forum/group discussions.
The Underlined writing platform will launch early in the new year. We will alert you as soon as your new writing home is ready.
When we launch the new platform in 2018, you will be able to create a new login (you can use your Figment username if you’d like), re-upload your work, or start from scratch on the new platform.
Your account and writing will NOT be transferred automatically to Underlined. You must save anything you want to access.
figment.com
Very chill looking community for writers and other artists to meet, write & socialize.
It actually looks very well put together and very friendly. If you are a writer type and looking for somewhere fun to play then this is definitely worth a look.
If you do could you keep us in the loop? Any feedback would be appreciated since this is all very experimental and needs your input...
I left Figment.com
Now before you jump to conclusions, I didn’t leave because of trolls and unfriendly users (unlike Dueling Network); the people on the site were some of the nicest users I’ve seen on the Internet. They were kind enough to read my stories and leave some valid criticisms to help improve on my writing; I couldn’t be more happy to talk to some nice, honest and helpful users on the Internet. With that said, I left because I wanted to move on; it’s kind of a long story, so let me explain. In January 2013, I came across Figment because they were hosting a contest; I thought there’d be some cash reward so I signed up and wrote my first short story on the site. However, because the contest had a word limit, I couldn’t tell the story I wanted to tell. I participated in a few more contests before finally deciding that I should just do my own thing. So for the next 2 years I’ve been pumping out stories and poems which met with overall positive feedback. Then last month, I looked back at my profile and realized that I wasn’t growing as a story teller; I had 37 followers, but they didn’t share my work with others. That and I felt it was a tedious process having to ask 1 user at a time to read my stories. As a story teller, I want people to take a look at my work and share it with others if they think it’s good; it’s kinda what YouTubers like Pewdiepie, Markiplier, The Creatures and Cupquake expect whenever they make a video they put time and effort into making. I don’t expect it to happen overnight by any means, I just figured that if I really try hard enough, more and more people will be aware of the stories I’m trying to tell. So what now? Now, I’m on a website called Booksie.com; it’s a website where I can post my stories and poems and let people decided whether or not they’d like to read them. I don’t have to ask them one by one, if they don’t want to read my stories, they don’t have to. So, if you like, be sure to check out my Booksie profile and become a fan; it would be very much appreciated and help me grow as a story teller if you do. Take care :)

A detective story set in a gothic/steampunk world, where fantastical creatures are the everyday norm for our P.I. heroine. The city that the story is set in is an alternative version of the city of Edinburgh, where I've been living the last few years. Lancelot's Crest in the story, for example, is Arthur's Seat of the real city.
Not sure if I’ve actually posted this before or not but it’s one of the few stories I’m actually really proud of (even if it does still need work) so I’m happy to post it again even if I have.
