On Ambiverts.
I see many people these days saying that in the end, it doesn't matter because we all are ambiverts anyway. And while I understand the logic behind the statement, it is not true.
The issue comes from the general misconception around introverts and extroverts.
People usually think that being an extrovert = being extroverted and being an introvert = being introverted.
Precisely not.
Being extroverted means you act more outwardly, and being introverted is its contrary.
But when it comes to Introvert/Extrovert as in the MBTI, it is related to the motivations behind your actions, not the way you act in itself.
Being an introvert means that what you are seeking for is a personnal gain, whether it's a feeling of joy or a material gain. Being an extrovert means that you act based on what your actions are going to bring others.
Don't mistake me here, introverts are not egocentric pricks and extroverts pathological "people pleaser".
(And I'll use this minute to remind you all that people-pleasing is in fact a traumatic response, and not something to cast a bad light on on the internet// and also most "people-pleaser" are introverts because they do it thinking their worth depends on how well tey please others)
So contrary to popular belief, the vast majority of humans are introverts. And there's nothing bad there. It's absolutely fucking normal so our whole lifes are only our own experiences.
And extroverts are not some kind of moral-hero,as extroverts tends to be wayyy more demanding and controlling of others, constantly of others.
And introverts don't ignore other's feelings or are inconsiderate. In fact, an introvert may be more likely to extremely empathetic as they can represent themselves in the situation the person's living.
So yeah, it's just that most people are extroverted introverts or the other way 'round.
Also to know which you are, you have to analyse your behaviour over time, not just that one occurence. It's a pattern.
To give two exemples :
You are fucking tired after work, but you have to see friends. You decide to make an effort and go a) because you know you'll enjoy seeing your friends -> introvert b) bc it's clear that this person need the seat -> extrovert
You judge someone on the bus because they didn't give their seats to an elderly/pregnant/disabled person on the bus a) because it goes contrary to your moral beliefs -> introvert b) because you'd be pissed if you were that person -> extrovert
One doesn't exclude the other, the question is which comes more like a reflex and occurs the more often.
And this is not constant. It's a question of which comes up more often.
For whoever is asking why I brought that up, I fell on a post saying Sherlock Holmes (BBC) is an ISTJ and I saw red.
Anyway, wish you all a good day/night.
