Save Me If I Become My Demons

What makes him think that... If only Lyle knew. He hadn’t been there. He hadn’t seen what happened to them, to Amy, their parents, or any of the people involved. He had been gone, safe, and Neil wanted to keep it that way. It was something that Neil couldn’t move past, even as they stood in the basement of their Aunt’s house, hastily scrubbing blood out of clothing that would likely end up in the burn barrel before the wash. And yet Neil still did his best to remove it, if only because it gave him the illusion that he could somehow erase what he had just did.
Even if that was impossible.
“I was the one who pulled the trigger, Lyle.” Neil spat, his tone hushed in spite of the empty house. Their guardian gone for work, leaving them to their own devices. The first mistake. “You’re not the one who chased him down and shot him. I was. You can turn back now and not have to deal with this again.” Lyle could live in the light while Neil took on the darkness; that alone seemed like the best option.
