Tastes So Good: File 13. The group File 13 was the studio project of New Yorkers David Witz and Doug DiFranco. (as “Double Dee & Steinski”) It was one of several innovative musical collages they created between 1978 to 1988 These mixes in turn inspired other producers to follow suit (M/A/R/R/S “Pump Up The Volume”is a prime example) The spoken word part of Tastes So Good was sampled from the free phone sex lines that were available during the 1980’s. You’d dial an 800 number and listen to a 60 second monologue by an obviously pre-recorded woman pretending to answer the phone live. She would provide a brief story of a wild sexual experience. It was a one way interaction, you couldn’t talk or leave a message. The whole point was to get you to call the paid lines, usually 900 numbers. I was never interested in the 900 number paid crap, but those free phone messages were so stupid (and hilariously entertaining) so quite often if I had company I’d dial them and let the recordings play on speakerphone . * * * * * * * #DoubleDeeAndSteinski #tastessogood #file13 #supergorgeousness #instagay #helleaux #learningtosee #artnerd #inspirationiseverywhere #instagrammers #appropriation #artfag #arthag #Helleaux #StayAtHomeModel #shotoniPhone https://www.instagram.com/p/CSWe1azBu3a/?utm_medium=tumblr
