The people who brought you Live Long and Pinup, Spirk in a Cave, and Shipboard Weekends are back with a shiny new Summer Spirk Event!
This time around we want to see your vision of Spirk at Sixty! Are they happily married with 2 cats and tenure track positions at Starfleet Academy? Perhaps they’re out stealing ships for enrichment in their old age. Heck, maybe they’re both in jail for...well canon gives us plenty of reasons.
Writers, artists, poets, filkers, and all other creatives are welcome to join the event and show us your vision of Spirk at Sixty! You’re welcome to use any iteration of Spirk: TOS, TAS, TOS Movies, AOS Movies, or SNW. They all deserve some quality retirement time.
New to fandom? We're here to welcome you! All you need is a love of Spirk and a desire to create.

This summer we're hosting a fan creation event to celebrate Star Trek's 60th Anniversary! Create fanfic, fan art, filk, pasta sculpture, or whatever creative endeavor you enjoy, as long as it involves Old Men Spirk.

🎭 HOW WILL IT WORK?
Pick a date from the list below. We’ll update this Tumblr post as the dates fill up. Right now we're booking two people per day. If every date gets taken we’ll potentially open up to a further round of signups. When a date is full we will strikethrough it.
Send an Ask to this very blog including your chosen date and whether you are an artist, a writer, or some other exciting sort of fan creator.
We will send you an invite to join the Spirk Events Server (a fantastic community of Spirk writers and artists)
When your chosen posting date rolls around, post your fic/art/creation on AO3 and Tumblr.
Add your work to the Spirk at Sixty AO3 collection
In addition to your own descriptions, also add these tags: #spirk at 60 #spirk at 60 #spirk events
Once your work is posted on AO3, feel free to share it far and wide!

📑 Fine Print:
Fic minimum length is 2000 words. No max, but know yourself and be realistic about how much you can write within the timeframe.
All art should depict Old Men Spirk. Fic doesn't have to take place at the exact age of 60, but Jim and Spock should be qualified for Senior Citizen Discounts at fine Federation Merchants near you.
This is an 18+ event. Sorry, youths!
Since it’s an 18+ event your fanwork can be any rating you’d like! Have fun!
You need an AO3 account to participate. If you don’t have one yet, they’re free!
Admission to the server is provisional. If you post your fanwork then great! You’re in! If not, we’ll regretfully ask you to leave. However, that’s not a perma-ban. You’re welcome to join up again the next time we have an open event!
Please let us know in advance if you won’t be able to post your work. We won't be mad! Real life happens. The sooner we know the sooner we can open up that slot for other people.

how are we meant to believe that Crowley and Aziraphale would sacrifice each other and the known universe when Aziraphale was ready to merc a child on the tarmac in Tadfield so he and his husband could keep enjoying books and wine
my absolute favourite thing about the kirk and spock dynamic is that the whole time you’re watching the show spock is gaslighting you into thinking that kirk is this loose canon and spock is paragon of logic keeping his captain on the straight and narrow when its very clearly the other way round. aside from being turned on by everyone and fighting like an old-timey boxer…. kirk is just like.. quite a logical, stable guy. like yeah he rules with his emotions but he’s rarely reckless or erratic, even in situations of immense pressure he’s always calm and measured. sure kirk is unhinged and insane, but we knew that right off the bat. spock on the other hand tries to hide how insanely balls to the walls crazy he is by standing next to jim and hiding all his derangement with logic. i think the reason bones beefs with spock so much because he is the only one who has noticed that spock is an absolutely unhinged individual. (jim is too busy doodling <3 mr jim spock <3 all over his briefings to notice)
The mistake people make is discounting the vital importance of Dr. McCoy to the Kirk/Spock dynamic. They make the mistake of thinking Jim and Spock are 'logic vs. emotion'. That is dead wrong.
Spock and DR. MCCOY are 'logic vs. emotion'. Kirk is the brilliantly pragmatic, levelheaded person who is making the choice (or refusing to make the choice) between them. Spock and McCoy are the metaphorical angel and devil on Kirk's shoulders, constantly sniping at each other. Except in this metaphor, they both think they are the angel. THAT is their dynamic.
Spock and McCoy will spout ideals for days, but Kirk is the one who tells them when enough is enough, he's made his decision. Sometimes he sides with Spock, sometimes he sides with Bones, sometimes he makes his own way with a little of both. Kirk is incredible at his job, is brilliant at making the best plan for any situation. Which means sometimes he tells Spock that going by logic is the wrong way to finish their mission- and when he does that, 90% of the time he's RIGHT.
Of course Spock is starry-eyed over Kirk; Kirk's not the wildly emotional one, that's Bones. Spock can dismiss Bones because of how often Bones is wrong. But Kirk sometimes picks emotions over logic...and is as successful as he is when he picks logic. He's standing there in the ashes of Vulcan's insistence that logic is the only way wearing a laurel wreath and holding a winners trophy. Spock is fucking RIVETED.

A friend of mine was in a hit-and-run accident where he was badly injured. He was standing at a crosswalk with his bike, waiting to cross when a vehicle came around the corner, jumped to the sidewalk and struck him causing multiple injuries. His medical bills will be astronomical. Anything that can help him is very much appreciated. I’m just trying to widen the net.
