I was about to say Muriel, but then I remembered that was Cas praying to her, not the other way around. Yeah, I think it was 9x01 with Dean praying to Cas. It’s been a while. :( :(

Thanks! Yeah, 9x01 was the last time that I could think of, too, but it’s so long ago, now, that I was sure there must have been some other time that I was forgetting. But no, that was really it. It is too bad, in a way, but it also shows just how human he’s become, doesn’t it? And how much the others consider him to be, if not exactly human, something very like one.

I was reading that finale meta you reblogged, but then remembered that Jim Michaels said that they wanted to use John in the pictures in the finale but couldn't clear JDM's picture in time. Does that intent change things, I wonder? If it wasn't them cutting John out of the family pics on purpose, but because of BTS business happenstance?

*shrugs* It did end up happening on screen, though. They could have just used the 1 picture that they wouldn’t have to alter but they went ahead with using a doctored one as well. Happenstance can sort of change into intent by suggesting new ideas you wouldn’t have thought of, especially if it starts feeding more into themes that were already ongoing. Perhaps they would have wanted the emphasis on Mary anyway (especially since one picture was just her and Dean to begin with) so having to photoshop John out was secretly a blessing. He was a contentious figure all season, with overt textual comments on his parenting skills and subtextual references specifically suggesting that it was time to let go and move on from the influence they had left on their lives. Throw in Sam saying to use the pictures of Mary to guide Dean’s morality, then you end up with an even clearer divide than they ever intended but one that is mirroring the subtext of the season.

I’m busy re-watching 1x21 right now so my John Winchester thoughts are extremely more immediate when I have the actual guy paused on screen next to me. :P Kinda hard to comment on his legacy when I’m busy grumbling about him setting it down still. :P

Dear friends who keep tagging me about Drowley for some reason: remember in the episode where Dean goes to confront Death before the apocalypse, and he and Crowley have their little side quest, Crowley first tries to subtly lead Dean to Death by suggesting they go fuck off and get pizza instead of bothering to confront the horseman.

*is watching for completely un-serious reasons but this is beyond even the point of my un-serious re-watching*
