Writing advice: filler words

Think of filler words like a filler episode in a TV show. They don't add anything important.

They're unnecessary, add to your word count, and often lower the quality of your writing. That's not too say you should avoid them completely (for example, they fit well in dialogue!), but rather use them in moderation. Be discerning with how you use them.

made a conscious decision to eliminate the frequent use of the word "um" from my vocabulary. Though it had become a default filler in my speech, I recognized that it undermined the clarity and confidence of my communication.

(just, like, you know, basically, so....) eliminate (or greatly decrease) your use of filler words, it lures focus elsewhere. It begins to direct folks thoughts 💭 to think that you aren't clear in what you're saying.
