Denial had been killing me, keeping me locked in a vicious cycle of dissolution. They flipped on the light and suddenly I woke up, for the first time in my life. I was catapulted into the fourth dimension, where I have worked diligently ever since to reside. I see myself today for who I really am, and I learned to love myself just like that. I recognize in others what was once in me, madness. I have compassion for their plight and an eagerness to help. It is impossible to wake up on our own when we are so far gone, but if we allow ourselves to connect to others, they can help us. They can mind us when we are weak. They can help us stay alert to new developments and sound the alarm when old behaviors creep back in trying to inhabit our new life.
