Good Omens S3 spoilers
I could fully accept a human AU type ending, although I don't personally like it I could accept that and be happy about the fact that for other fans that's a perfect ending.
What I do find most disappointing is the poor writing and editing in the S3 film. I understand the constraints. I understand the problems that have led to this, just as anyone else who is part of this fandom does.
So when you have issues, when you have constraints, what do you do? You cut your cloth accordingly. Many TV and film productions out there have had difficulties and had to make changes in order to make a story work.
(Don't say Event Horizon, don't say Event Horizon...)
There are numerous loose ends and dead ends in the S3 plot. There are plot holes and filler scenes that do NOTHING to advance the story of the episode.
Brian Cameron and Misty? The whole point of that was to justify that Crowley didn't have the Bentley and was sleeping in the street? Should've cut it.
Jesus? Great character! Loved him, very sweet, very charismatic. Could have brought some much needed THEMES to this finale. COMPLETELY WASTED. Why is he there? Why is he persuing the lady after an off the cuff comment from Crowley? None of it made sense. He did however have some excellent scenes, but no story arc. SAD FACE.
I LOVE that Michael got her time in the Sun. She really deserved to be a villain! But it was badly telegraphed. So much so that even Muriel figured it out, at least they were self aware enough to put that in. I think the whole thing should have centered on Michael, hidden it for longer and made the reveal more impactful.
God and Satan could have been a lot more impactful. There is some good dialogue in these scenes, but the whole thing lacks real stakes and therefore emotional impact. Not that I wasn't emotional but... you know.
I feel like Crowley was out of character for much of the finale. Crowley is POWERFUL Crowley is SMART Crowley is also FULL OF RAGE. Where was that fire??
Crowley and Aziraphale actually don't have any resolution to any of their problems. Like at all. There wasn't time there wasn't time, well I tell you what if we'd have cut out the filler maybe there would have been time huh.
Where are Crowley and Aziraphale's pages in the Book of Life?? They don't gommage when Michael throws the book in the fire THEREFORE THEIR PAGES AREN'T THERE. Where are they? Who hid them?? Massive plot hole/loose end (with so much fic potential NGL)
A lot has been said about the no kiss. I thought the fingertips thing was cute. But what I really wanted was for them to say how much they loved each other. They had the perfect opportunity by the tree in the Eden Bookshop. Even if the ending had then continued exactly the same, I think this would have given us all a lot more of the resolution that we were craving.
At the very least the final Human AU scenes were (to me) reasonably well written, even if not my cupperty I can acknowledge that.
I think the overall plot and writing was so chaotic and full of holes that Terry would have made a pun about it resembling Swiss cheese. And that one joke would have had more meaning, more humour, and more love in it than everything we got in this sad hour and a half.
GNU PTERRY you are missed
Yes, I cried when I saw his portrait on the wall.
I love you Good Omens. I love you Terry. I love you Crowley. I love you Aziraphale. I love all of you in the fandom. I love you Rob. I love you Rhianna.
I forgive you.
Not you. You all know who I mean.
