Roberto Devereux vs The Pearl Fishers, for the opera final scenes ask.

Well, I’ve only seen one of the possible Pearl Fishers endings--the one where Zurga nobly allows Leïla and Nadir to run off together, and he just stands there sad and heartbroken. Honestly, that final scene of his sacrifice for the two people he loves is so moving.

However, if you have a good soprano singing Elizabeth, the ending of Roberto Devereux is just fucking fierce.

So I think I’m going with...Roberto Devereux.

Don Carlo vs Forza?

This is tough, but I think I’m going with Don Carlo. I mean, dead Emperor returns to tell you what time it is? I’m on board with that. (Of course, both operas have multiple endings and I haven’t seen them all, so I reserve the right to change my mind.)
