Here is the Link to my video just in case the video is too big for the post.
Process
I learned a lot about my own aesthetic during this process. I spent a lot of time hand lettering and thinking of economic ways to reuse parts in my animation. Which can be seen in the scenes that use overlays of the simple subway routes. Overall, I spent a hefty amount of time on this animation trying to experiment, try new things, and simultaneously produce something I really liked.
More about process:
I made separate compositions for the typography scenes that focused on the subway route. All done using paths in aftereffects and my own hand lettering. I used a displacement map effect to give it a more humanist quality.
Additionally, for the cinema 4d scenes, I used my palette to keep the cinema 4d scenes consistent with my hand drawn illustrations that I would later overlay on top as either textures or later through compositing.
For the flourishes, I made separate compositions with a simpler subway route animation which I used as overlay animations for the cinema 4d scenes and on the background of the typography scenes to attempt to make it more cohesive (which was my overarching goal).
Challenges
I struggled a lot with aftereffects and compositing afterwards, just because I wasn’t able to get the movement that I wanted exactly 100% perfect. I also wish now, that I had done the overlay, to have picked a different palette, because sometimes the combinations of colors were not the strongest.
If I could do this again, I would probably find a way to incorporate more 2d animation, a stronger color palette, and a better way to make the movement animated through after effects less jumpy and more smooth.
Thanks!

think it went well. I was expecting the feedback given which is the type. I find it notoriously difficult to set type, mainly because I’m more of an imagery girl. It sucks because I read a lot of books and magazines but I always take note of the images before the type and I should focus on recognising type layouts more. I have almost finished my book and so I’m going to go back and rethink layouts on every page to make it easier to read and find a balance between type and illustration. Type needs to be slightly bigger as well.
Some examples above of some layouts I love. I need to desperately work on hierarchy, creative layouts and overlay which I think these showcase well.

Final Posters for the Crit tomorrow
Really not sure about the visuals but I was told to have more depth to my imagery so I stepped it up. I put a lot of thought into the illustrations and they do all have meaning and links to their headlines and taglines.
PERFORMANCE HAS NO LIMITS - A young skater - it can be argued skating is a state of performing and is quite similar in its movements to ballet - performance is everywhere and is not “limited”.
DANCE HAS NO CLASS - A young dancer in the slums - showing that dance can be seen / experienced / felt by anyone in the world and it is not exclusive.
COLOUR HAS NO GENDER - Four guys all wearing pink in a pub - showing that saying a colour is feminine is just as silly as saying a type of dance is feminine.
I’m not sure I like them but that’s the reason I want to put them out for feedback. Feel like it’s missing something still.
Here are the main players of Design I with Heather plus Heather. Started from painting brush strokes now we here and done. We all went through alot of hardships in this class but everybody made a lit effort. Thank you guys! You guys made this awesome
Andddd that concludes my semester! I had a final potluck and critique with the whole gang which had some surprises and yummy-ness.
So much work has been put into these past six weeks that I feel teary eye knowing it ended so fast. But I’m glad I got to know some of you because everyone had a unique style that expressed so much thoughtful ideas and individuality during our final critique.
I learned a lot and I hope that someday I can use what I learned into my future projects. Thank you everyone for this amazing experience and I hope you all have a relaxing summer!
Today we did our presentation on our week brief: Spatial Communication. Everyone’s presentations were so good and probably the strongest work we’ve all seen from our glass working in groups before and it was such an enjoyable morning. We were last to be picked and we showed our two videos and had a little presentation in the middle to accompany it. We all had a go in explained everything it is that we did. They really loved our idea and said we had such a resolved idea because of our data collecting we did but we maybe didn’t show how resolved it was with our visual interpretations. I reckon this could have been helped if we had of had more time and more coloured tape! The way we were going was so strong but we were restricted with our time and didn’t extend it as much as we could. The other thing they said, which I completely agree on and, to be honest, wonder why we didn't follow through with it as it was an original idea of ours, is we should have printed the infographic poster of all the lines which were collected by the general public because it would have been such a beautiful piece. Maybe even printing 2, one on just normal or tracing paper and then one on top of a map so you can actually see where about the lines crossed in what area. Otherwise, I thought our project well really well and I loved seeing everyones work all presented. Also, after getting briefed again for the fourth project as a reminder, I can totally see why we were set these group projects as they get us started for this one as it contains it all within the four weeks.
