It's Exactly What It Looks Like | KageHina Fic | Ch 4
About two weeks have passed since Shoyou and Kageyama started up their closer than average friendship with each other, and at this point, it was clear Shoyou was much more comfortable than his friend. He quickly realized he would have to be the one initiating any real “practice” but Kageyama wasn’t too far off and was a lot more prone to making advances through his body language than his words. Shoyou wasn’t afraid to ask for what he wanted, and Kageyama wasn’t afraid to show him what he wanted. Things seemed to be working pretty well.
For the most part.

Hinata asks Kageyama to come over after practice. The night doesn't go as planned. - AO3 Link | Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3
Cassius Claude Morgan was born into a family that had no magical traces in them, Cassius being the first in many generations with the natural ability to use it. His affinity for necromancy was discovered when they found dead insects crawling around on their own in Cassius’ nursery, Cassius’ hands outstretched to them. Cassius spent his early youth trying to resurrect dead animals with the intent of talking to them and becoming their friend as no one else would talk to him in fear of his magical abilities. His family moved around a lot because of rumours and fears surrounding Cassius’ power, making it hard for Cassius to have a stable childhood. His parents (Helena and Victor Morgan) moved around to keep Cassius safe; they loved their son dearly and knew that he was harmless and did not mean to scare anyone. And so he spent his childhood by himself, dealing with crippling loneliness only healed by communicating and bonding with the dead.
A few years later, Cassius, now of age, came across another mage by the name of Magnus Laurent, who came from similar circumstances as Cass; outcast out of fearing something people did not understand. They fell in love. They began to work together to find a way to utilise their magic to help people in hopes of finding acceptance, but soon their quest for began to corrupt Magnus, unable to resist the temptation of using this newfound power for himself; feeding into the hatred caused by years worth of isolation and rejection, and thus began to manipulate and use Cassius to achieve his goals.
Magnus had an idea: seeking power from the realm of the dead, thinking the realm barren and untouched and filled with the knowledge of great and powerful figures lost to time. Using his incredible connection to souls and the deceased, as well as being much more powerful now especially when combined with Magnus’ strength, Cassius managed to open a portal and see into the realm of the dead as he had gained the trust of spirits previously, past what any living human should ever see. He saw the realm that ghosts, souls and those resting in peace wander and felt this insurmountable amount of loneliness. For the sacrilege of slicing the veil between life and death, Cassius’ eyes were cursed to remain that haunting black and red. They represent a being who has seen death and lived.
Cassius knew that what he was doing was wrong and begged Magnus to stop; but instead of listening to his partner, Magnus pushed him into the open portal of the realm of the dead, sealing him inside as the push broke Cassius’ concentration, destabilising the portal and closing it. He did so seeing Cassius as a threat now that he believed Cassius had exhausted his use, deeming the experiment with the realm a failure. Cassius remained in the realm for a few months unaffected by time, remaining dormant and in a seemingly never ending slumber. As he slept, he could feel the souls that haunted the realm, seeing into their memories through fleeting, lucid dreams. It was here that Cassius stumbled across the secrets to great power that Magnus was after, locked away within the memories of great mages past, and began using that to strengthen his necromantic abilities and wake himself up.
With his newfound strength, Cassius tried to open a portal to living world from the inside. The portal worked; Cassius Morgan emerges not only alive, but now an incredibly powerful necromancer, far more powerful than he ever was before, learning great knowledge and secrets that he learned and applied to practice within his lucid dreams. Magnus blames Cassius for all that has happened, and blames him for ruining his path to glory, still not realising how he had become blinded by his own greed. They duel, Cassius barely being victorious thanks to all the knowledge and power that he gained inside the realm, Magnus soon realising he’s outmatched. But Cassius isn’t wanting to kill him, so Magnus escapes with his life after distracting Cassius with a blinding ball of fire, completely losing track of him as Magnus went into hiding.
However, Magnus still being alive was a big threat, knowing that Magnus would want to know how he survived and kill him as revenge for ruining his quest. Cassius moved far away, settling down in a small town where he has remained for over twenty-five years. He eventually finds out that Magnus, while weakened, has been captured and imprisoned in a maximum security prison for trying to steal ancient tomes from a museum. Cassius is free to live his life in peace, but still worries about the day Magnus breaks free.
Then there was the question of ‘what now?’ He had accumulated all of this power, yet had no intention to use it. But, he still felt that it was a waste of potential if he didn’t accumulate it into his life somehow. Then he remembered back when he was a child; resurrecting animals to try and talk to them. To make friends. To heal his loneliness. He tries to resurrect a single corpse to the best of his ability, being able to do so almost perfectly, the corpse both physically and mentally intact as it was in life. He was powerful enough to do so now.
He had an idea.
Perhaps this was his calling. To reunite those living and dead, healing loneliness. Spreading love. Giving closure. And so he opened his own business, helping families and friends come together over tea and cakes, no matter whether they are living or not. And through this practice, he only grew stronger as he became more familiar with his power, accepting it as a blessing instead of a curse and blossoming into the master necromancer he is today.
