ooc frustrations below cut
A preface: I’m on disability and my income is really low per month. I live with a roomie who makes 3x what I do in a year. When we moved in together, i was working full time and making almost twice what I get in disability benefits. Upon moving in together, we figured out how to split the bills. He pays electricity, I pay cable/internet, and we split the phone bill since we’re on a shared plan. (it was cheaper that way).
Today I got a bill from Comcast (internet/cable) that was nearly twice what I’ve been paying and is 3x what I started paying when we moved in here 5 years ago. I called and they got me on a lower plan (Still with tv because it’s cheaper even though we don’t watch it) and slower internet (which is fine because we weren’t getting the speed we were paying for anyway). It’s still $25 more than before and that’s nearly the whole cost of living increase to my disability benefits.
My roomie doesn’t even care. Electricity is just above half of what the bill will be. I would change companies if I could, but there’s nothing fast enough for streaming besides comcast where I live. (The next fastest is Verizon DSL at 3mb/s. streaming needs at LEAST 7mb/s for high quality.) He also plays WoW so dropping down on speed much more than I just did isn’t an option.
Since electricity is about $50 and internet/cable is now $85, would it be fair of me to ask for him to cover half the difference?
