It’s time to be angry about age verification.

What kind of fucking dystopian hell are we living in?! I was just asked by Google to provide either an ID, a credit card, or a selfie to watch a video that does not have any adult content in it.

I was trying to watch two videos by MacDoesIt. The first one was reacting to bad porn intros and the second was reacting to the weird side of YouTube. I want you to take a wild guess which one they asked me to provide age verification for.

I am signed in with a Google account that has my damn birthday on it. Is that not enough for them? When is it going to be enough?? It’s not like they haven’t already collected and sold all of my data. YouTube is already a fucking dumpster fire and has been for the last 10 years. From slop content that has steadily gotten worse with AI, to Google just destroying the platform and everything in between.

Now you want a credit card?? My state ID?? How about I just do a fucking blood sacrifice at this point. Goddamn ridiculous. And that’s not even factoring in the fact that Mac is the ONLY creator, that I actively watch, that has been getting flagged. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to put the pieces together on that one. Your days are fucking numbered Google. Miss me with that dystopian bullshit.

If you think about it, if you've thought about it for longer than just a few days, and especially if you can get something better or nicer or something that will make you happier, go for it.

I think we tend to feel beholden to our jobs, and employers love to make us feel like we need them (them specifically), but really it's them who are dependent on our labor. And if y'all ain't treating me right, I'm taking my labor elsewhere.

I'm not saying yo should just up and quit tomorrow, but every good plan starts with the first step of admitting "I don't want to stay here".
