I got a few DMs on Instagram as well as Twitter of people asking me to mentor them.
Here is something I can tell you about mentors and how I had cracked my chance to work with someone like Grant Cardone.
I had dived in value first. So rather than saying “hi, whatsup, would you be my…
I always wanted a mentor. Someone I can learn from. Someone that has my dream job or is following the same career path that I am looking to follow.
However, I still crave to have mentor that is working in the field I would like work in the future. I am currently interested in working for a non-profit organization focused in international development and global health. I would like to work in policy, communications, or program management. I would love to get to know someone who working in a non-profit organization that working up the career ladder in these areas. Not only I am in interested in working for non-profit organization, I am also interested in healthcare marketing, PR, and communications as well.
I haven't exactly met my future mentor or haven't been able to introduce myself to that person because I haven't met them yet but I know of them. It is hard, at least for me to find my mentor. I envy those people that are quickly able get mentored by someone that they admire so much professionally especially with just a email or tweet without meeting them. I have read many articles or accounts of students just like me, finding their dream mentor easily.
Why is it so hard? Especially for me?
Got any tips to how to approach someone to be your mentor? Let me know!
I met this older gentleman yesterday who has run his own business for 40 years after quitting his job. Talking to him left me in awe because I quit my job to create my own businesses, sometimes I get overwhelmed and I think maybe I should just go back to what I know. But here is this 78 year old man looking like he is in his late 50s, totally happy and content with his life. Telling me that quitting his job was the best thing he ever did and for me to shut all negativity and other people fears out. He told me his life story, the reasons why he started his own business and most importantly what he deems most important in life. He did not start his business because of money, prestige, recognition but he wanted to build. He reinforced my belief that I could do anything. So far GOD has blessed me with five mentors. He has opened opportunities where I have met wise people that are older, wiser and years ago have stood where I am standing now and became successful by sheer grit/belief/craving to make something. After talking to him I thanked GOD because he gave me another omen for me to follow what I really want to do. I am happier knowing I am finally paying attention to that part of me that screams constantly "DO THIS!" regardless what everyone arounds me screams that I am not following the more "traditional path" in life. I am also coming to the realization that when you follow your path and start getting besieged by doubts, GOD gives you these signs that you should pay attention to or bring people in your life that you should talk to beyond the superficial conversations. Yesterday I met someone who gave me wisdom and flamed the fires of my soul to always "build." THANK GOD.
