Greetings everyone! For Day 12, I'm skipping over my monster challenge to share one of my most precious characters. This OC is my interpretation of the god, Anansi. Anansi is an African-Diaspora mythic figure, trickster, and folktale hero (also the God of Wisdom). His presence in the world is in the public domain as a concept, but this particular rendition of him is mine alone!
He was initially designed for a defunct setting, but I've successfully revised and retrofitted him for my purposes. I would love to like, draw some comics with him as a presiding force, but one thing at a time.
He's distinctly Afrocentric, but if you couldn't tell by his appearance and vibe, he's generally not perceived as any kind of nobility, and is inspired more by his duplicitous nature as a trickster. Maybe I'll share more about him later. This post features art and sketches from throughout the years!
Some more work and sketches of him are beneath the cut!

I believe this is a bearded seal!! Bearded seals are named after their thick and numerous whiskers— which are the most sensitive in the entire animal kingdom! They use these whiskers to easily find prey in the water, and for bearded seals specifically: finding prey across the ocean floor :DD
