Did Jyn and Cassian's costumes in Countersigns have any significance?
Hi and thanks so much for asking! 🙂 There isn’t really any deeper significance behind their costumes at the ball (Jyn as the Queen of Air and Darkness sabacc card, Cassian as a racing fathier) other than that they fit the “games and sports” theme of the ball (which I chose just because it seemed like an easy theme for which to come up with fun costumes). That, and it was an excuse to put Jyn in a glamorous, flashy outfit of the sort she probably doesn’t get to wear often, and to give Cassian the challenge of carrying out a (mostly) serious mission while wearing something goofy.
Hope that answers your question, and thanks again for the ask! 🙂

Silence again. His eyes are fixed on her, while hers are turned downward and to the side. They are back to where they started. Her mind wanders back to the time she first planned this journey to Naboo, when she made a mental list of all the things she wanted to say to him upon seeing him through the Rift. She can remember none of them now except for one simple question:
“Why?”
“Loveliest, you know why.”

How much research was involved in Countersigns?
Hi again! Sorry to be late in replying to this. I had started a reply, but it got eaten somehow and I had to start over.
There was at least some research involved, mostly on in-universe lore. First, there was the matter of finding a Star Wars world that would be likely to throw a fancy masquerade ball, and since that felt like a royal court sort of thing, I looked into worlds that had royal courts and eventually settled on Eiattu, which I remembered being the setting of the Rogue Squadron comic The Warrior Princess back in the day. (Which of course I reread, and I highly recommend it if you can find it!)
Then, because the theme of the ball was sports and games, I had to look into sports and games in the SW universe in order to come up with some of the other costumes. That was easy and fun to do, thanks to the relevant Wookieepedia list page, and that’s how I came up with, for example, the one noblewoman and her family dressing as a Theed quoits set (I hadn’t previously known about that game).
So while this wasn’t the most research-intensive story I’ve written by any means, it definitely involved some, and the research it did involve was the fun rather than the depressing or boring kind! 🙂

All rated G unless specified otherwise, and all have been very kindly beta-read by @spacemomcreations.
Useless Bay (Rogue One, Jyn survival introspection, prelude to to The Rains of Scarif)
In That Big Somewhere (Squib OCs)
Knight and Survivor (Rebels; Kanan and Zeb drabble group)
I Only Play (Gand music box; inanimate object viewpoint)

Some Recent Stories by Me, Part 2
A few more recently posted Star Wars stories by myself, all rated G.
So Long Lives This (Post-Rebels; adult Jacen and elderly Hera; Jacen tidies up the Ghost and finds his mom’s old love poetry to his dad; inspired by Shakepeare’s Sonnet 18)
The Bearer of This Pass (Pompous Imperial OC is taken down several notches by Rebels we know)
Topatoes (My Heart Is Not Here) (Pre-Rebels; Zeb introspection while peeling topatoes in the Ghost galley; music prompt)
As with a Mantle (Telfien [OC from The Book of Gand] returns to and communes with the Surface of Gand during the Imperial invasion, in hopes of helping heal her world)
Some Pig
(Star Wars—All Media Types; puffer pig OC, ice spider OC, Azmorigan; friendship, fluff, talking animals; content warning for minor animal cruelty)
A fluffy, humorous story in which a puffer pig, a porcine mammal capable of sniffing out precious gems and metals and inflating when scared, makes friends with a knobby white ice spider while treasure hunting with Azmorigan on Maldo Kreis, and receives a new lease on life. Written for a couple challenges at the forums on TheForce.net involving various animals or monsters. The Charlotte’s Web (1952) influence is undoubtedly obvious.
