‘Le Poupon’
A Drinks Cabinet made out of a rare book-matched exotic white ebony front, walnut ‘crowns’ and sides, solid cherry legs with walnut feet caps. The internal of the cabinet consists of book-matched Blue Gum and various Eucalyptus in diamond and herringbone arrangement.
Finished with hard wax oil and renaissance wax.
The design of this drinks cabinet is centered on the book-matched white ebony veneer front which was given to me as a challenge to make something out of it. I decided to go all out veneering and did this entire piece using mostly veneers; a rather underrated material in the world of wood working today.
The top of the cabinet features a set of curved veneers laid over a repeated diamond design; giving an illusion of taking a peek into the cabinet.
Strips of Eucalyptus veneer were joined to give a graduated edge-banding around the door.
Solid cherry legs were hand shaped down and walnut feet caps were added to give it a smooth movement.
This drinks cabinet was created during the 2 months of the Covid-19 lockdown (Apr - June 2020).
