The doe shook it's head, walking around Lucille, pressing the warmth up against Lucille's back, wanting the other to lean on her. Lucille was in so much pain, and it was all of Neon's fault. Neon let her emotions get out of control, let them crack her and tear her apart, and all she needed was that little push... The doe rested her head on the ground, breathing, hoping Lucille was calmed by her presence. A tear rolled out of an eye, burning slightly at the ground when it hit. All her fault...
No, no, little one. Run away, run away like I should have done.
Lucille wanted to tell the animal to run, to escape as far as she could away from her. To take the advice she had turned away herself, but couldn’t summon the strength to. She wanted to have Wind come pick her up, but she feared summoning the element due to the pain she thought would be in store for her. She couldn’t play her music and notes were feeble as well. Not that she could think the doe could read, since she had tried many times with other animals.
It was almost funny to the soundless spirit as she thought about it, allowing herself to lean into the doe for support. She was too weak to give it any other instructions, and from the way it acted, she would not react to Lucille even if she continued to point away, to tell her to run. It seemed as if all of her preparations while she was soundless and nothing but a shadow had been stripped of her when she found her core burning from the blast.
For not listening to her friend, she had become powerless. Was this what they called irony?
Snowy hair fluttered over golden fur as one arm slung over the back of the doe, allowing her easier access to inspect the glowing animal. A thing of beauty, Lucille lifted her free fingers to stroke along the deer’s soft and warm fur. Warmth. Something she had thought that she never get to feel again, having grown accustom to the cold touches of snow. She wanted to relish in it, to think of herself as able to touch that warmth once again.
The sizzling sound brought arctic hues to attention, watching the golden droplet fall from the doe’s eye. In all too quick of a second, realization poured over her and the spirit stumbled back from sheer shock. Without a thought, her mind summoned forth a note, suddenly overwhelming her with a burning pain that scorched her to her core. The woman’s face contorted with a painful, soundless scream as the ashen, dirtied note hovered in the air while fingers dug into her flesh and made her lean back towards the animal. All for a single word: “Neon?”
