This is what I am finishing in 2012
"Why are we doing FinishYear? Because completed dreams change the world."
If you haven't heard about Jon Acuff's FinishYear, read about it here. He created FinishYear as a way for him and his readers to finish things that matter. And it is easier to finish things with support. Starting January 1, I will, along with the rest of Jon Acuff's participatory readers, be posting once a day about my FinishYear projects. FinishYear will hit facebook, twitter and tumblr. This will not only help to keep myself accountable, but it will help me to give and receive support from others working on their FinishYear.
So what are my goals for 2012?
1. I am going to learn how to, and make one thing per month. Whether that be coasters, a skirt, shampoo or a spice garden. I want to learn to be less commercial and more sustainable and this will be a good way to do it. This will also be a more personal way to give gifts, and a definite money saver.
2. With the exception of my student loans, I am going to pay off my debt.
3. From January 1 - April 1, I will read the whole New Testament. Last year at this time, I said I would read the Bible through and I got stuck in Leviticus, so I am taking Jon Acuff's advice and starting small. I will wake up a half hour before I have to and read and pray.
4. I am going to live a healthier lifestyle. Eat smaller portions and work out three times a week with my accountability partner. I was going to give myself a weight loss goal, but I decided that wasn't the wisest way to change my lifestyle. I should be working on being healthy and not on the number on the scale.
5. I want to become closer with my family, so in an effort to be intentional, I will call, visit, email, or text one person a week who I haven't had contact with in a while.
6. Unless there is an emergency, I will put at least $50 every pay period into my savings account.
7. Here is the big one. From January 1 - July 1, with your help, I will raise $2,300 to go on a mission trip to France. A few years ago I wrote about God opening my eyes to the difficulties of the Protestant Church has in Europe. I really feel the Lord opened my eyes and my heart to that for a reason.
I like things in threes, fives and sevens. So, here is a list of seven.
Maybe I should work on being less compulsive. Meh.
I am both excited and terrified to begin this list. I know God wants me to finish things in my life. He wants to teach me discipline and I will become a more disciplined person by practicing discipline.
