How about “time passes slower without you.” with Finn?
heyo! i saw that your requests are open, may i ask a university!au with finn? i don't have something really specific but i think it would be great the reader and finn being rommates or they just meet up at the library at uni to study together (even tho they have different classes) or both together! but that leads eventually for both confess their feelings 💕
Alright! So I decided to kind of combine these two since I thought of a cute drabble to go along with it. Hopefully you both like it! :)
Modern AU Finn + “Time passes slower without you”
______________________________
A loud chime rang through the lecture hall, creating a whole scene of commotion as everyone grabbed their things and stood from their seats. All of which quickly pulled Finn out of his dazed state of mind. His chin instantly removed from resting on his fist as his arm shifted off from the table top.
“Remember your essays are due by Friday evening.”
He could have stayed in his daze for that. Who wanted to remember a drawling econ essay when the weekend was right around the corner? Certainly not him. Giving the slightest shake of his head he stood from his seat and began collecting his things in a swift motion.
Strolling out from the hall he allowed his mind to wander again as well as his gaze. While he knew this class was important for this one day he couldn’t seem to get his mind out of its on track. You.
You and Finn had been friends for almost your entire college career. All it had taken was one class together in your freshman year and the two of you had become nearly inseparable. Study sessions, sporting events, late night snack runs were all done in each others company. He would argue you almost had an equally matched connection with him as he had with Rey and Poe. With you however the more time you spent together the more he realized his feelings for you were different.
By this senior year he knew for certain that he wanted you to be more than a friend, and the idea of never seeing you after graduation paralyzed him in a way. He didn’t want to know a daily routine without you in it in some small way. And so now he wandered a distance behind you, wandering to the same meeting spot you shared for lunch wondering how on Earth he was going to get this off of his chest.
The closer his feet brought him to you the more he swore he could feel his heart pumping rigorously. Especially when you gave him that warm smile of yours.
“You survive Micro today?”
He shook his head with a little sigh, “Hardly.”
“Well had Poe not talked your ear off today I could have helped.”
Finn smiled, “I know. You always make it bearable.”
You lightly hit his upper arm, “Aw I do?”
He could feel the butterflies in his gut, practically pushing the words he so desperately wanted to say up into this throat. Was he going to be sick?
Your eyebrows furrowed for a moment as a more skeptical look glazed over you.
“Your tone was a little somber.”
Damn it. You knew him too well. It was something he loved about you but saw the draws in a moment like this. If he deflected your questions for too long you’d just dig it up yourself.
He cleared his throat, “Well I have been thinking about a lot of things lately.”
You gave him a curt nod, “You can tell me.”
“Things between us. And at first I thought maybe I was overthinking it but, I think my head and heart are in the same place at this point...the right place I guess is more accurate.”
He could have sworn it was getting hotter outside as he felt the heat flaring behind his cheeks. Hopefully if he got it out you wouldn’t notice the beginning of sweat developing on his forehead.
“But I’ve noticed that... time passes slower without you.”
You laughed airily, “Was one class not sitting next to me that awful?”
He smiled, “No, no not just this class. As much as that is true. But in general. My time with you feels the most exciting and the most satisfying. When I’m around you I don’t have to worry about judgment or being a certain way, I can just breathe and enjoy myself. And I don’t know if I want to leave this school without that.”
He watched you carefully as you took in a deep breath, your eyes noticeably widening as your posture grew a little stiff. Had he said too much? Or what if you didn’t feel the same?
As he felt his blood rapidly coursing through his veins, practically hearing his heartbeat between his ears, he watched you shift. Now he had to brace himself for whatever you were about to say. And yet part of him hoped the sound of his own anxious heart would just muffle it. Give him a moment to accept whatever was coming.
He nodded, “I really do.”
You laughed airily once again, “Thank gaud.”
You shook your head as you scooted closer to him with a smile painted across your lips, “Finn I have been waiting 3 years for you to say something along those lines. If I had known all it would take was not sitting next to you in a few classes for a week I would have done it so much sooner.”
Releasing the breath he had been holding Finn laughed, “That’s not the only reason why.”
“Well now you never have to worry about me ditching you again.”
Leaning in closer to you Finn smiled, “I wouldn’t want it any other way.”
