"Oh my god your in love with them." For jeanie/ fiona or fiona/miles??
Fiona hated all things about public schools. Everyone was always loud and obnoxious. And everywhere she turned, she saw teenagers shoving their tongues down each others throat. The sight of everything made the woman want to hurl her breakfast all over the hallway, but she forced herself to stomach.
The only reason she was here was to see Miles. She was here for him.
And so her heels clicked along the tile floor, searching for the familiar floppy haired boy. When she saw him unloading his textbooks out of his backpack and into his locker, a sigh of relief escaped her lips as she made her way towards him.
“God, I don’t know how you can handle this dump,” Fiona grumbled when she reached him.
Miles glanced at her for a mere second before rolling his eyes and continued to take out his supplies. “What do you want, Fiona?” He asked, sounding more annoyed than usual.
The woman gave him a pointed look that was meant for anyone who talked to her in a disrespectful tone. “Um, first of all, don’t give me an attitude.” Miles tried to fight the smile that wanted to reveal on his lips, but his efforts were in vain. No matter how mad he was, the teenager couldn’t help but lighten up around her. “Second, what in the holy hell happened between you and Jeanie last night?”
Miles straightened up his posture, looking at his best friend with confused eyes, “Wait, she didn’t tell you?”
“No! She was too upset to even talk to me! Why do you think I came all the way here?” Fiona exclaimed, as if she were stating the obvious. If Miles was honest, he didn’t expect Jeanie to not tell Fiona everything that happened the former night. The two always shared everything together, that’s the way it was with them. So Jeanie keeping their conversation from Fiona meant that she really didn’t want to discuss it.
He shook his head, “Fi, if she didn’t want to tell you, then you should respect that.”
Fiona gawked at him, as if he had suddenly grown another head. “Are you serious right now? I did not come all this way just to have you to leave this alone!” She folded her arms across her chest, “I’m not leaving until you tell me. I have every right to know why my best friends are not on speaking terms.”
If one thing was for sure, the woman stood by her word no matter what. One way or another, she would get Miles to spill the details. With that in mind, the teenager heaved out a sigh and avoided his eyes from hers.
“We got into a fight last night,” He mumbled sadly.
“I figured that much, but continue,” Fiona informed.
“Fiona, she’s not taking care of herself. Jeanie doesn’t eat, sleep, or even the leave her house. All she does is stare at the news and wait for any information on her dad.” Miles paused for a moment. He hated seeing her like how she was. She had been wearing the same clothes for the past week, her blonde hair tied up in the messiest bun known to man, and her well rested face was now full of tear stained cheeks and dark blue bags underneath her eyes. “All I did was try to help her, but she wouldn’t let me. And we just lost our temper and took out our frustration on each other, I guess.”
She nodded solemnly, “Give her some time. All she needs is right now is some hope.”
“I know, but I just wish there was something I could do to help her, you know?”
He looked up at Fiona to see that her arms were no longer crossed and her face had softened. “You still like her, don’t you?”
Miles felt his cheeks burn bright red and he did his best to avoid the obvious look on his face. Fiona knew all about his feelings for Jeanie, but he hadn’t told her how much they’ve grown at a very fast rate over the past few years. “It’s more than that,” he mumbled softly.
She stared at him for a moment, not realizing what he had meant by that. But when she put two and two together, her eyes grew wide and a gasp escaped her lips. “Oh my god, you’re in love with her?”
Slowly, but surely, Miles nodded. “Yeah, I am.” It felt as though a small weight had been lifted off of his chest. The only other person he had told about his true feelings for Jeanie was his father. It had felt good to finally let his best friend know.
A wide smile grew on her face. No words could describe how happy she was to hear that he was absolutely smitten about Jeanie when Fiona knew how she reciprocated the same feelings for him as well. She had waited for this moment for years and now all the pieces were finally fitting into place.
