Varanasi AKA Banaras, the Hindu Spiritual capital of India.
The mother Ganges is the main focus in this city and access to it from the most narrow and tight alleys that lead to ghats which are used for many different things, such as washing laundry, bathing, ceremonies, Puja, pilgrimage, cremating bodies.
It was an amazing place to visit and to get lost in, not an easy experience but it was a true eye opener.
The right photo is one of my favourites that I took whilst in India. It’s simple but it takes me back to a place rather than the content of it.
It reminds me of the atmosphere, the smells of burning fires in the street, the heat and pollution on my skin, taste of lime soda and sugar cane, the dirt on my feet from the dusty road, the feeling of eyes on me as I walked through the streets of a new town, the tiresome haggling and the constant begging. Vermillion marks on the third eyes of Indians, the fear of charging cows and buffalos whilst walking through narrow streets, the mismatched bed linen in mixed dorms and the bars on the window to stop the monkeys from climbing in.
