Concept drawings for Tawaret Besharu, or Tara for short, a Firarsian from my Firmament science fantasy space opera setting. Golemic prosthetics have always been a part of Tara’s life, as she was born without legs, a tail, or right arm, and further complications from birth defects led to multiple organ failures in her lower abdomen. Healing magic was only a temporary solution, as all it could do was restore Tara’s body to its normal state, which in her case would mean still being without three limbs and uncertain health of some of her organs. Even though Tara’s parents were pretty well off, magic capable of building her a new body, while certainly possible, was rare, practiced by only a handful of powerful mages, and extremely expensive. Extensive prosthetics were within their means, but many sacrifices would have to be made for their sake of their daughter.
Tara eventually took on an apprenticeship in golemic engineering, giving her the skills and resources to maintain and even improve upon her golemic body. She also developed a talent for illusion spells and glamours, allowing her to hide her artificial body when needed. As a teenager, she would’ve loved to have such powers to conceal her disabilities, to feel normal for once. As an adult, appearances are just like clothes to her, to be worn and discarded as the whim takes her. And the ability to change her appearance the capabilities her enhanced golemics give her are especially useful in her new career as a burglar in big, high-profile heists, much to her former teachers’ dismay.
