Okay IMAGINEEEUHH
Varang reacting to oc, who is/was a fire dancer!
quaritch manages to convince oc to perform a routine for varang in the pretense of "strengthening alliance" as the tsahik had a deep connection with fire
At night fall, the mangkwan clan had positioned in a circle. It was completely pitch black except for the low light that a small bonfire aside offered. Varang had been apprehensive at the mention of the foreign concept "fire dance" but anything related to fire was greatly encouraged so she gave in nonetheless, though her threat—or promise— of ripping quaritch's heart out if the performance wasnt satisfactory rang in quaritch's mind.
After a short while, varang had started to grow bored, already considering killing quaritch who sat beside her right then and there but her attention quickly snapped to Oc, as she entered the circle, carrying a fire rope dart (long rope with a lit ball in the end) in each hand.
varang was mesmerized to say the least.
The sight of oc wielding fire like it had been born into her was such a sight to behold. A steady beat of a drum started sound out as oc started to move, her body fluid; the balls of fire flowed in beat with the drums.
The way that the fire gleamed made it seem as if she manipulated the flames itself— as the performance went on, the beat seemed to get restless, as her movements increased with it. At some point of the dance she had changed to a fire staff (a wooden/metal staff with fire at each end) initially only one end was lit. Oc had grabbed the staff and bent her back as far as it would allow her and made sure to make a show of sticking out her tongue to touch the end of the staff that was blazing and ignited her own appendage wich elicited a gasp from the crowd.
Varang hadnt audibly reacted but she felt herself inch closer— almost as if she was in trance,
everything else had faded into the background and the sight before her smoldered to an intensfying rate that was beyond its temperature. Oc had bent and weaved the fire in way that brought it a newfound heat that sent pleasant shiver down varang's spine. The sight of oc made varang's pupils dilate to an alarming rate. The black swallowing the golden irises like a boundless blackhole.
Oc spun the staff, throwing it into the air and landing graceful spin then catching it from behind in swift succession that made the crowed yip and chant in excitement, some tried to reach out and touch the performer but quickly shrunk back at the tsahik's hiss.
For the finalee, oc had sneakily put some paraffin oil in her mouth. She held the the lit end of the staff near her lips and blew the oil into the fire; the ball of fire grew into a raging plume of blazing heat. It was so large it illuminated the space within the circle and beyond. The crowd either hissed in surprise or yipped in fascination.
Varang had stayed in place— her breath ragged not in fear but in a mix of astonishment and another pleasant feeling that delved more intimate.
After the performance ended, oc had snuffed out the fire with wet rags and a large bonfire was lit to illuminate the space.
Varang had decided quaritch's heart would be spared tonight, the performance had beyond satisfied her but she wont say that out loud.
ever since then varang held an allure for oc and oc has been receiving (courting) gifts ever since that night, but dint have a single idea where they came from.
